What is the best economical chain to use....
For Shimano Uniglide use? I am looking to replace the old chain on my "new to me" '87 Traveler and am looking for a good compatible chain that won't break the bank.

Agreed, I use the next model up (or so) and have had good results in general from KMC

+1 to KMC Z-50. The SRAM PC-850 chains are a little nicer I think, I use one with a suntour freewheel and shifting is scary smooth.

I have not put any miles on them but I got similar KMC chains, and they seem really nice. my first experience with a master link on a 10sp though.

I've had good luck with SRAM chains that run about $18-$20 at the LBS. Might have to try those KMC chains sometime, though.

I've used the SRAM chains before but only have on straight tooth apps and likes them. I have only used the Shimano chains for Uniglige apps but they are somewhat pricey anymore... I just might give the KMC a try. The price sure seems good and ya'll seem taken with them so maybe one is in my very near future!
