Oh Snap, I didn't just

do that.

Sorry not necessarily C&V, but I figure you guys could call me a dumb-a$$ as well as any one else.

Saturday afternoon my brother was over at my place and had his fixed gear bike up on the stand. We were just bs'n, watching a baseball game and he was stripping down the bike. So I know better, but was fiddling around with the crank anyway. Then wham, sucked my finger right in, only got about 10 degrees of rotation but that was more than enough to mash my finger tip and drive a gear tooth into the tip of my right index finger. This wasn't a typical cog either, he runs a pretty wide track cog on this bike. It cleaned up pretty well though I have a nice wide X pattern puncture wound and a mashed finger nail.

Just one more reason why I don't really like fixies.

Danger! Pinch Point

Saturday I too had the compelling urge to injure myself. First I dropped a bike on my big toe. Then, after icing my foot for a couple of hours I decided to go out and smash my finger with a crescent wrench when it slipped off the bolt.

Heal up fast !

Yep, fixed gears in the stand can be dangerous. But, as you know, it's not the bike's fault.

Ha ha.. Not laughing at you, more of with you. I was trying to get a stuck seat post out of a bike yesterday and it bit me. There was about 4 inches sticking out of the bike, figuring there was at least a couple inches in the tube. I grabbed hold with both hands and it turns out there was about half an inch in the bike. It came out pretty fast and bit the side of my nose.

Try explaining a half moon shaped cut in the side of your nose some time..

I pulled a similar stunt many years ago, working on my track bike. I'll spare you the gory details, but suffice it to say that my left index finger is now 1/8" shorter than it used to be.

Fingers and fixed gears just don't mix.

Yea, I was half expecting that I had just lopped off the tip of my finger, luckily that wasn't the case.

Almost did the same.....on my motorcycle when I was lubing the chain when it was on its centerstand a couple of years ago..
It would have been an amputation istead of mashed finger nails if I did not catch myself and stopped the wheel just when the pressure from the rear sprocket and chain was starting to press on my finger....still hurt like hell though....

I was fooling around on my unicycle on Saturday and managed to blow a dismount. I was expecting to step off in front of the wheel, but put all my weight down on the saddle too soon and it shot forward. Left pedal caught me squarely in the calf from behind with such force that for second, I thought I broke a bone.

Fortunately no breaks, but I managed to whack myself hard enough draw blood with a rubber "comfort" pedal. Darned fixed gears.

OUCH!

I suspect you have a fairly light wheel on that bike. A heavier one would have kept going farther.

Pics, or it didn't happen.

Condolences on your self inflicted suffering. I'll keep my embarrassing moments to myself.

Self-Inflicted Suffering is in the old-crappy cell-phone pic in my av...

How to order this,

Left index finger for reference, this evening

Right index finger, bruse is starting to show itself, plus the crud around the edge, this evening

The offending culprit from Saturday, that is not grease, paint or strawberry jam,

Another pic from this evening...

It could have been worse, it still hurts, and it makes typing more difficult. Heck, trying using a different finger on the mouse for a couple of days....

Oh snap

that's not gonna buff right out.

I was taking the pedals off a dismounted crank earlier tonight and when the right one broke torque, I drove my own hand right down into the big ring. Dandy bruise right behind my right thumbnail; i don't think I'mma lose it but you never know....
