Early 70's Italvega
Well I picked her up yesterday evening. I was so excited to have an old 56cm Columbus frame. Then, last night before getting ready for bed, I tried the old standover test. It hadn't even registered with me that the bike was originally equipped with 27" wheels. I'm pretty disappointed now. It fits like a 58cm, which I can ride, but would rather not.
On a side not, does anyone know anything about the hubs that came with it? I know th`ey're not original...Maybe high flange Nuovo Tipo? Also, what stem is on the bike? It's really cool, and says, "Il Primo Di Lusso".

nice looking bike. just put some real big tires on to increase the standover height. I believe the round hole makes them Tipos

It seems unlikely to me that the wheels are the source of the misfit, then. The difference in height from 630mm wheels vs. 622mm wheels is only the 4mm below the hub. You're experiencing a difference of five times that. Are you sure that the seat tube measurement is accurate?

Does it have 27" wheels now? THey look more like tubulars which are 700c size which would actually lower the standover height a bit. If it does still have 27" wheels, switching to 700c size would slightly lower the standover height.
Great looking frame.

It is sitting on the tubulars that came with it. They are not original. Normally, I would run 700c clinchers, but I don't have a decent set of 27'' wheels. Nor do I have longer reach period correct calipers to reach 700c rims.
And to address standover...a 56cm with 700c's doesn't hit my junk, but a 56cm with 27's does.

I rode a FUJI 6cm to tall for me and it was not fun - But there is something to be said for a tall bike - Maybe everyone needs a HORSE bike...

Good points. I'm going to thrown some stuff on it and see what happens. I've got a campy crankset and bb. Maybe some brakes, too. Or maybe I'll just try it fixed.

+2. Been riding the same bike for 35+ years and have never had a junk incident
