Looking for an Eddy Merckx MXL

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forums and am getting back into cycling after a 15 year hiatus. I raced in college in the early 90's on a crappy Taiwanese made Schwinn Paramount. At that time, I remember seeing several Eddy Merckx MXLs and coveting one badly. Now that I can actually afford one, I've been having a hard time finding one in a 56cm. I'm hoping to avoid Ebay, so if anyone out there has one that they're willing to part with, let me know. Thanks!

I believe there is a 56 mxl repaint for sale on the serotta forum.

Let me know if you turn up a 52-54 in your search!

Edit: just saw your WTB post there. Also the one I was thinking of is a 55 and he's looking to trade, it's a few pages deep.

I have one 55 c/c, 56 c/t. If you see a 62, let me now, and we'll trade. Photos are in the frame swap trade at page top. Photobucket is down just now or I'd post 'em.

Bianchigirll,

Interesting insight. I've been away from cycling for quite some time. I guess most people who visit these forums are older and have a strong affinity for the glory days of steel frames. I was a bit silly to buy a newfangled carbon bike (Look 595) several months ago, and it has offered absolutely no nostalgic value whatsoever. Since I'm slow as a snail (for now), it doesn't matter whether I ride a $5,000 carbon bike or a $50 K-mart special, so at the very least, I want to ride what will be most enjoyable overall and remind me of a time when I could actually mash the big chainring.

If anyone out there is interested in a Look 595 in a size large, let me know. I'd be happy to send it off to greener pastures.

Hey Rat Fink - got your PM. Can't respond due to low post count. Thanks for your offer but my heart is set on the MX-Leader.

Hey now BG, don't go stereo-typing all us C&Vers.

Some of us are "Made in Americo" (sic) sort of fellows. Put notin' b'tween our legs but USA built machines. Give me Schwinn steel and Cannondale alloy, and nothin' else!

But don't forget to add the English saddle, and Italian and French derailleurs, and Swiss brakes, and Japanese freewheels, and Spanish cranksets....

Dang, girl, pass me some Skoal, I'm feeling Surely!

Force, my nephew has this bike, only it is probably a 54cm size frame. He keeps it at the in-laws mountain house and only rides it occasionally. It is sweet.

Pastor Bob - it most definitely is sweet. The one pictured is a friend's I am trying to sell. I have a Motorola reissue MXL bike that is a keeper. My favorite bike.

I wish I could add your friend's Caloi to my collection and keep it in GA with my nephew. We'd be a sight riding them together, especially if we could find matching kits! But it is way beyond my price point for such an occasional ride.

I would potentially be interested. I think we could work this one out. Email/PM me, or if you can't PM yet, let's see what can be done here.

Poguemahone - I sent you an email.

Force - I sent you a visitor message.

Let's take this conversation offline and try to get something done.

Thanks!
