Mid 80's Peugeot Something or Other

I just got this bike in a trade on Friday, and I think it's one of the nicest riding bikes I've been on. I'm not having much luck trying to figure out what it is though.

Here are the specs:
Carbolite 103 internal lugged frame
Nervar Crankset
Simplex DT shifters and FD, Suntour ARX RD
700c Mavic rims with Atom front hub and Malliard rear hub with 6-speed freewheel (Not Helicomatic)
Weinmann Type 500 Sidepull brakes
Sakae Custom drop bars
Weight is 25 Lbs.

After looking around, I've found that the decals on it probably mean it is from 1983-85, and the serial number Y405 03990 probably means 1984. The site said that it's not really known what the numbers mean though, and is kind of a guess. I have not had any luck figuring out what model it is though. Apparently there is supposed to be a sticker somewhere near the bottom bracket, but I don't see one. Any ideas on what it could be?

Uh, let me guess, it's a Peugeot? Nice bike though. I stopped keeping track of the Peugeot models when I bought mine in '72, so I can't help you. However you might want to brows the catalogs at https://cyclespeugeot.com/Catalogs.html or https://retropeugeot.com/. I'm not surprised that it ride nicely. That looks like a winner.

Hmm. Except for the downtube shifters (as opposed to stem shifters), it looks a lot like my 84/85 P8.

I'm going to take a stab at PH10L:

Its a European model, maybe a PH11 or 13. With the exception of the PH12 U.S. models didnt have an internal rear brake cable. Check the '84 catalogs on my site...i think there's only a British one.

I've looked through all the 83-85 brochures on those 2 sites, and don't see anything close enough I can say my bike definitely is one of them. I'm thinking either a bunch of parts got swapped, or maybe the guys at Peugeot felt like throwing random stuff on when they made it. 1984 Peugeot Something or Other might be the closest I can get to identifying it.

Yes, I was really surprised by it. I was selling a GT Tempest at a garage sale for $100, and a guy offered $75 plus two old bikes. The first was a Free Sprirt, and this was the second one. I figured I was just getting a bike I could sell for more money, but I finally got a chance to ride it today, and it didn't take long to realize that this was exactly what I wanted in a bike. I'm also amazed how well it handles bumps in the road with only 700x25 tires. I think my first changes will be bar tape and bar end shifters, and switching out the saddle is likely too.

Agreed...they're not super lively out of the hole by any means but once rolling they're butter smooth. Here's a shot of the first bike I bought a few years ago that got me back into riding. It's not much but it'll be the last one I let go of...first love and all. There's not enough sun to show off its midnight blueness but what the hey...

I've got a 1982 Peugeot Super Sport in decent shape with all original parts (except the pedals). I was thinking of repainting it, but don't want to do anything to upset the bike gods. Should I be worried?

addition

The Simplex levers are held on by M5 x 1.0 screws, an obsolete Metric standard. The new standard on other bikes is M5 x 0.8 and they are not interchangeable. Get an old scrap Simplex Prestige plastic lever set and use the plastic headed wing nut from that. It is possible to use US spec 10-24 allen head screws but the fit is not exact and may need Loctite, clear nail varnish or a heavy dose of bee's wax to keep them tight.

I would need the two screws with the two wingnuts. I cannot write pm’s because I need to write 10 posts before being able to do that. Thank you anyway, that would have been very useful and very kind from your side.
