Need tire/tube sizing help.

I just purchased a Schwinn Sprint for my wife. I believe it is an '85 model according to the stamp on the rear forks (G0385). The frame looks good, with a small amount of rust. I need to get some new tubes and tires for it, but they are so worn down that I can not tell what sizes I need. The rim says 24x 1 1/4". Does anyone know what size tubes and tires I should purchase? I appreciate any help.

Clean up the tires.
You should be able to find some size numbers on them.

unless its a tiny bike its more likely 27 x 1 1/4" than 24 x 1 1/4". Might wanna double check that.

I think the "G" indicates its built by Giant (taiwan).

post a pic. We can tell you right away if its 24 or 27"

You can usually see an S-6 stamped on the rim near the valve. If it is an S-6, 24" tire, you will use these. Tubes, use whatever 24" is near the same width.

Thanks for the replies.

Apparently it is a children's bike, which kind of bites, but at least my wife is fairly short, so maybe it won't be an issue. The rim definitely says 24 x 1 1/4. I'll have to check back about the S-# to see if it's stamped on there. I'll also try to get a picture up on here this weekend. As far as cleaning up the tires to see the size, that won't be possible. They are extremely worn down and dry rotted to the point of any and all writing being illegible or non-existent. Anyways, I appreciate the help and will try to get pics up as soon as I can.

Hey, Schwinn fans: I'm trying to help my father-in-law figure out what he needs to look for (on a bike in another state, which I can't see). Can I tell him with certainty that if it's an S-6, there will be an "S-6" stamp on the rim near the valve? Thanks.
