Finally putting this thing back together after sitting in my shed for a couple of years, I ended up riding my voyageur instead.
Im piecing it together as I go. I Found a 700c wheelset suntour superbe pro hubs laced to mavic cd rims, threw on a pair of panaracer pasella 28c tires. I also finally have room to add these velo orange fenders I've had for years, they would not fit with the original 27" wheels. A thomson seatpost with my brooks saddle, Nitto stem with Nitto b177 noodle bars. Using the original SR cranks, suntour front/rear derailleur, and downtube shifters. I found some dia come 750 brakes, hopefully those will work if not I will pick up some tektro r559's.

Here is the final setup.
I was getting some skipping when in gear, I think my freewheel is going out.

Awesome final job @jamesj....did you need to do anything special to the front to get the fender line so nice. I agree the VO fenders won't fit with 27" wheels but I still have some weirdness on the front fender with 700C...seems very squished under the crown. I am running 32C Panaracers though...

What is it? With the room behind the seat tube and in front of the tire- My guess is either a TX-x00 or an x10.
Sorta looks like it could be an Ishiwata sticker- so maybe... TX 500 or 510?
I've had a load of trouble with the Velo Orange front fenders. I've tried them on 2 bikes- they seem to want to ride 'nose up' and since I've got front racks on, it won't let the fenders go where they want... I'm probably just doing something stupid...
By the way- Voyageur SP. You always forget the SP.
I hope you sold it as a Voyageur SP vs just putting up an ad for a Voyageur!

Mark 900: I didn't do anything special just used the darma. I wanted to try to fit 32's but barely could fit 28's. That was the biggest size that would fit on these rims.
njgreyhead: THANX!
The Golden Boy: It is a 1980 412. And the person that bought the "SP" knew what it was. He is a friend in the valley and he actually has loaded it up and went bike camping with it, more than I did.
engineerbob: I used Tektro 559's and Tektro Levers, It does have its personality. It wants to go fast!
Bruce27: A sticker I got from Tour De Fat in 2013, says pedal pusher. Only reason it's still there because it will not come off. HaHaHa!!!!
Only thing is I will have to replace the freewheel, I rode it to work and it was skipping, pulled 2 links and still the same thing. Here is some detail photos for the fun of it.
Here is the sticker.

This pic does about as good as a job of capturing that deep Trek blue as anything I've seen.
I remember the day after I got my first old Trek- it was an 84 420- and seeing that bike in the morning light- that beautiful blue and the glints of the metal flake... it was 'indescribably beautiful, it's like... the 4th of July'
Your bike is looking awesome!!

1977 710. Changes since last post:
--SOMA Hwy One bars: Great to have a bar with comfortable drops. Probably should have gone 46cm wide vs 44...with zero flare at the bottom my knees can hit the shifters when sprinting out of saddle.
--Shimano CX-70 front derailleur: Discovered this on the Rivendell site. With rear shifter cable routed on top of chainstay, a normal FD couldn't get close enough to the chainrings and shifting was slow and sloppy. Now the chainrings shift like they're indexed.
The build gets better with every change. Maybe not prettier with the mix of new and old stuff but certainly more functional.

I was wanting to do the same thing to my trek, using the same bars even. I want to do the basket on front too. I can't though with the bars being so close and low. I wonder if I would like those soma bars.
[QUOTE=VictorKnox;18145788]Finished a couple bikes in the last few weeks.
First, a 1981 Trek 614 (24"). Bought it pretty original and turned into an upright townie/commuter bike to avoid overlap with my other bikes. Swapped to a triple crank so I could use it to tow my kids in a Burley trailer. The bars are Soma Oxford, basically a copy of Nitto Albatross. Not really a fan of the bars so far. I am not used to sitting so upright. Might try some moustache bars soon.

That looks like a bike to RIDE- the mix of modern and "vintage" is nothing if it improves your ride.
You might want to check either the date or the model number. In late fall of 78 they changed from the TX model names to the all-numbers.
So before fall of 78, it would be a TX700 and after it would be a 710 (or a 712, 714, 716, 717, or 718 based on component group)

What wheels are those? Are they 700C?

Serial number as explained by vintage-trek says this is a 710 from June '77 (H5F7A21) so pretty early in the history either way. Whatever we call it, it's a great ride!

Git dropped off at the bike shop, needed a new freewheel. The sun tour was slipping from being worn out, had to get a shimano 6 speed.
Took a 8 mile ride on the canal paths here in the valley.
got a lemon, love this time of year.
Bike shop was able to give me a blackburn rear rack. I would love to find a front one.

I just picked up this one and am pretty excited. It's an '82 950. I'm going to build it up for rides like the Dairyland Dare and fast touring. Got a possible line on a Campy triple, already.
