Not much will happen without those pics. M in the serial number likely means 1984.

Also, look on the back of the components for a date code. Then go to Vintage Trek and use their excellent guide to help you ID the year of your bike.

I'm not sure what kind of information you are looking for but the M in the serial would imply 84, like cb400bill mentioned.

The maximas (sport and uno) were towards the low end of the univega line with the mangalight frame, stem shifters and safety levers. It's triple butted, which is nice, but the higher end ones were usually CTB (cromoly triple butted).

Regardless of being lower in their line, I think all of the mid-80s 'lawee design' univegas were great bikes and a great value. It looks like it's in great shape and it should be a nice rider. If it fits, ride it and enjoy it!

What rear/front derailleurs are on it? I can't tell from the pics.

Swaged crank, stem shifters, "safety" levers and rat trap pedals, if all original, point towards a lower end model. but at least the frame does have brazed on details like the top tube cable guides, so if the frame material is not gas pipe grade 1020 stuff, it might be worth modding up to something better with nicer wheels and components.
The bike kinda reminds me of Peugeot's early PH10s and Later P8s. Both bikes with Peugeot's Carbolite 103 tubing frames, modded up nicely (Especially the PH10s) to fast light bikes if the right wheels and components were used).

+1. Entry level Univega. Steel chain rings, turkey levers, stem shifters, claw RD hanger. Still a nice bike!
