The Zeus Man Cometh

1 Attachment(s)
I was recently able to purchase a fairly complete 70s Zeus set of parts for my Zeus frame that has none. Previously I had scored a set of Zeus hubbed clinchers on ebay, so I think I'm there less a seatpost.

Frames been repainted and a little beat but I'm going to touch up as best I can and slap a set of decals on it. Once I finish 4 other projects...

Wha?

Fun stuff. I've got a couple of Zeus groups packed away; an old Criterium group for a '70 <RICKERT> and an early 2000 group that may end up on a straight-stay '53 HETCHINS (gasp!). I've lusted after Zeus since seeing it advertised in bike mags of the mid-'70s. :)

I've only used Zeus on Zeus bikes... have 3 now, don't know why, but you can only collect what you happen to come across... Honestly, never saw it much in the 70s, though my first nice pedals were Zeus.

I think he means you might develop a close relationship soon with a buffing wheel and a lot of polishing compound.
Get ready for the mess if you do decide to bring out the bling on the Zeus components. Despite the mess involved, I did have a good time doing it to my Vitus Carbone aluminum lugs!

I do have a buffing wheel, but I'd don't go in for the super shiney chrome type treatment, especially when everything else is already beat.

There is a certain pleasing aesthetic to bikes that are top quality but old, used, worn but not worn out, dull and faded but not trashed.

I've also been a fan of Zeus since the 70's, and have rather worn out Zeus components still on my oldest Gitane. I wanted to use a pair of Zeus 2000 brakes on my 1963 (not '53!) straight stay Hetchins, but the reach was too short.

While we're talking Zeus love, anyone have a Zeus 36t inner chainring? I'm in need!

dbakl, someday I think I want to do pilgrimage to your stables!

Cheers!

That's cool. You certainly get to spend more time riding your bike that way!
