1984 Nishiki Custom Sport Mixte Info.
Hello all, new guy here and hope this is the correct place to post this. I just picked up an '84 Nishiki Custom Sport Mixte for a whopping ten bucks. Its in decent shape but it needs some tlc and I couldn't stand to see it rotting away. It is missing the rear Dia compe n500 q/r brake, and previous owner had put some bmx style stem and handlebars. Anyway, here is the question. Can anyone tell me the original stem and handlebar used on this bike. I'd like to try and get it back as close to original as I can.
Thanks,
SV

Thanks Sirrus, Im thinking I want to go with the upright style bars and not the road style. The original stem was also missing. I'll look into your information. Again, thanks.

I had a similar vintage Nishiki mixte olympic 12, and it has a diacompe stem if I recall. An SR stem would also be period correct and look good.

It's all apart right now and the paint actually shined up quite a bit. Surface rust is gone, and the aluminum pieces cleaned up nicely. Seat, tires, and handlebars will be replaced. I have a an 81 Peugeot that started somewhat this way and boy did she clean up nicely. Here is a pic of that one.

I guess thats what they call "Getting called out". Here are some pics of the Peugeot and the Schwinn World Sport. Look at the date on the Peugeot pics. Not a bad looking bike for such a short amount of time.

More '84 Mixte pics
Well now that she is all apart, (already re-packed forks and such), and have a better look at this mixte, I'm not sure where to go from here. It has been pretty beat up, (scratches and chips all about the frame), but it looks a lot better than it did. I didn't know anything about these mixtes, but the more I get into it the cooler it is. It still has the "handcrafted by Kawamura" sticker on it. At first I just wanted to put her back on the road as close to original as possible, but now I'm wondering if I should get new paint. I'm open for opinions, suggestions, or ideas. Thanks
