This Schwinn is confusing me...help identify

Ok, I am usually pretty good with old schwinns. This one has me second guessing myself. It has all of the marks of a 1949 and newer. Kickstand, rims, and the serial number in the left dropout. However, the serial number has one letter and only 5 numbers. (H28717) Everything I can find says it should have 6 numbers. Also, the chainguard doesn't seem to match anything I can find. It looks like a Phantom or Panther but the wings go back too far. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

Mike

Looks like a Hornet or Starlet.

This chart makes it a Jan 1953.

That's the chart I used. Problem being that January of 1953 starts with a 6..... This is what has me somewhat confused.

That H6 might be a typo although some early Schwinn serial numbers jumped around a bit. They didn't all follow a pattern until about 1956. Even after that, some of them still got squirrley. January and February 1966 come to mind...

That chart shows Jan 16-19 having serial # H26564 to H37436. Looks like they stamped a lot of frames during those 4 days.

Huh. Funny chainguard. I should look more closely at these things.
Here's mine. It's a '50.
