now, if it WAS OK TO LISTEN TO MUSIC WHILE RIDING, what would it be?
Inspired by that other thread over there I thought it would be interesting to see other tastes in music. Has this been done recently? Forgive me if so. I think most of us would agree it is dangerous to listen to ear bud anything while riding a bike. If it weren't, what would you listen to?
OK, I'll start. As far as musical tastes go, it could be nearly anything for me, from Mozart to Stan Getz to Elvis Costello. And of course, Little Feat.
With a few exceptions, I like any number of different kinds of music. Lately I've been on a nostalgia jag as I can't say I've found any recent music that blows my skirt up. This month it's my old Roxy Music, now on CD. Last month it was The English Beat. Before that, Split Enz. Etc.
Your turn;

There's a bunch of hacks from Louisville named Dallas Alice. No count musicians, but the rhythm guitar player is one good lookin' fella if I say so myself.

while I never wear it on the bike have to admit I do wear it walking sometimes. however the mix of somgs on my Ipod may be the most eclectic around. old Jazz- Ella, Louie, (Armstrong and Prima), Lambert+ Hendrix+ Ross, Doris, some country Dwight, Roger Miller, 60s stuff, lots of 70s, '80, show tunes, Classical and Opera! (Joyce DiDonato rocks!) OH this reminds me got to download....

Pretty Lights is nice techno-y stuff that fits well to weaving around the city. If it's a sunny day, then you can't beat The Go! Team. Otherwise speed metal, 24/7.

Personally, I believe that there is a Tom Waits album for all occasions.
I won a little mp3 player with a tinny, built in speaker in a contest a while back and I plan on using it in a shirt pocket or taped to my handlebars for rides. I've only used it once and that time I was listening to Joe Strummer's last album Streetcore, but I've meaning to bust it back out.
I feel like there would be a lot of good instrumental music that would provide a good "soundtrack" for rural riding: Tin Hat Trio, Rosenberg Trio / Django Reinhardt, Dave Brubeck, Charles Mingus, Stan Getz, old jazz like Bianchigirl mentioned.
We used to go on 'townie' rides with some friends. One lady had a little battery powered radio in her front wald basket that was usually playing oldies stations and sometimes it added a bit of ambiance. Interesting doppler effect if you passed by her or she passed you...

Lots of good stuff mentioned already. I'd add lots of old Motown and funk - 4 tops, Isleys, James Brown, Parliament/Funkadelic, Sly and the Family Stone, etc. I always get a grin when I hear Hot Fun in the Summertime.
