Current State of the Fuji Royale II Mixte and 1 Year of Cycling! (bunch of pics!)
Yesterday was one year since I started restoring and riding vintage bicycles, and since I got my first bicycle in "adulthood" Hurrah!
To celebrate, I didn't really celebrate at all and went on my standard ride. But I took a camera!
The Fuji has undergone a few more changes since I last posted her. I got a stem with a positive rise so I'm finally not half an inch above minimum insertion. And finally not killing my shoulders!
I also switched from cloth to cork tape. My hands were getting numb on the cloth, a shame because it looked so lovely. Luckily cork looks even better in my opinion!
Finally cleaned the drive train. About time.
Here she is as we last saw her, before the new stem and cork:
A lot has changed since I first got this bike.
I've changed too. For those who remember the glory (or just gore) of the fall I took the first day I got this bike, I've healed well. Just a scar above the brow. One step closer to Harry Potter I guess.
Cuts and bruises aside, I think the Fuji and I will continue to get along nicely.
Oh! And since I've got all these photos up, I'm looking at front racks. Something I can put a small crate on. Something that can support around 20lbs I figure. No I can't buy a porteur they're just way to expensive for me. Any thoughts?

Nice ride, Kate!
The (currently out of stock) VO Constructeur rack would look great, support plenty of weight and give you an additional front fender support. Installation isn't for the faint of heart, though.

Bikes: a heavy old steel Frankenbike Gitane, a cruiser (not something I'd buy for myself, but it was a gift, what can you do?), a Greg Lemond, a Specialized Stumpjumper(old, steel, fully rigid), and a Specialized Safire

Looks beautiful! I'm working on a mixte build myself right now. That's a Wald rack you have on the back right? Those are really very nice little racks, considering how inexpensive they are. And where did you come across that little pannier bag on the back?
As for the front rack, how about this? https://www.somafab.com/rack_frontalloy.html
I think it's only about $30 or so. Only problem is that it's aluminum and won't match the finish on the rear rack- unless maybe if you tried polishing it yourself.

It looks lovely, you should be proud....and as one Fuji aficionado once said to me, "The Fuji gods are smiling..."

I usually don't like the look of a non-horizontal stem extension with drop bars, but with the porteur bars on your fuji I'm loving the "MTB-style" stem. Gorgeous!
Those gold-anodized rims still look great, too.

But I did the modification to mount it on a bike myself. I got the idea from a pair on Etsy that were far far out of my price range. I had no idea about this guy, he does it much better then I did.
And thanks everyone!

Great mixte...I'm glad you've healed and settled your differences with the Fuji Gods. As for the front rack, I dunno. I'd go for a nice basket with a tight weave in the same color as the cork unless that's too girly for you. As a guy, I could never rock such a thing, but I dig watching the ladies with them. They'll hold more than you think.

Kate, how about this front rack from Portland Design Works?
https://www.ridepdw.com/goods/cargo/takeout™-basket
I think it looks a bit goofy high on the road bikes on that webpage, but for upright bars and not a lot of weight, it could work nicely.

There was this awesome front basket that Linus was selling, with wooden slats in the bottom and a built-in cupholder. Unfortunately I can't find it on the site, there's not even a picture of it that I can find anywhere, so I guess they don't sell it anymore and it's a moot point anyway because the price on it was an absurd $140... but it had a cupholder!

Which sadly can't be anything but a knock off of this: https://www.batescrates.com/
Shame because that $85 price difference is mighty tempting.

That is truly a bike fit for a queen!
I can only hope the Bob Jackson mixte I'm building up for my wife turns out half that pretty. (I think she'll insist on North Road bars and maybe even a gel seat which will knock the style points way down. )
Try Mederma on that scar, unless you really like the HP look. It was recommended to me by an ER doc after a similar scrape I had. Worked like a charm.

Did you find touch-up paint? I used spray Dupli-Color Royal Blue (DSFM340) on my Royale II. I sprayed some into a container and built up layers using a brush. I then lightly sanded that spot and used rubbing compound. It turned out real nice.

Thank you I haven't had the chance to make it to an auto store yet! I have that nail polish but it really just wasn't cutting it. I'll be sure to look for the Dupli-Color. Touching up the paint is what I'm most nervous about doing. I'd hate to muck it up.

Kate, here's what I'd do. If you're still planning on coming to Boston this summer, drive instead of fly, bring the Royale and show it off at this years Larz Anderson show .. Watch us drool in person.

Very nice bike. And a good way to celebrate the one year mark, I should've done that a few months back after my first year spend in serious road biking after I quit the rowing crew bust still needed a way to keep fit

Linus makes some really nice lookin stuff man. I was planning to get their adjustable rear rack for this bike for ages until I changed my mind to a saddle bag and front rack. Your fabled lovely front basket reminds me of this: https://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban...edProductSize=
