$107 + shipping for a stripped UO-8 frame set. What's not to love? It's a lot easier to rip them apart and box them up than it is to overhaul them. I may start buying these again.......

no brainer. I've got one in my driveway I've been looking to ditch.

Is it smarter to strip it completely or just minimize the effort and pull the wheels, shifters, derailleurs, stem and seatpost, remove the pedals and sell it with the BB, Headset and Cottered cranks still installed?

Definitely a no-brainer, because eBay is so effortless and trouble-free for sellers...

Honestly... i think the UO8's where some of the best bike boom era bikes. I may be influenced by the fact that I see SO many of them in Montreal... which could be due to the french connection thing and the brand name that may of have been a driving factor for its success here locally back in the day (citation req.). But because I see so many... it must prove that they have lasted this long, non?

I sold two UO8's in the last two years for 150 & 240$. Original parts with the latter one in close to mint condition.( mind you also the market is nuts here)

anyways... over here its far better to sell those locally in their original condition if you just take 1 hours to degrease and clean them up. thats all. (seriously... what are you gonna do otherwise with multiple plastic simplex derailleurs lying around?)

I rode one off the dock at the cabin last summer.

My family was very impressed with my take off velocity!

....although no one would get me another "pop" for several hours after that stunt.

Damn, I just sold off my remaining UO8 frames cheap, locally.....

UO8s were some of the best, entry level bikes back in the day. What makes it different now? Back in the day, you could easily get any/all the french stuff you needed to make nice upgrades. Now all that stuff is obsolete, and the reproduction stuff is high, real high.

I have two UO8's sitting in the back yard and no one will steal them. I have three more in The Old Shed and three UE18s. I should have a sale. Sadly, no one in Thunder Bay is interested and I really don't like selling bikes locally. And for me to ship a UO8 drives the price up so much that I can't sell them is shipping is involved.

What to do? Guess I will go back to work on the Maserati...

But they trap more crabs with all the components still attached.

I'm not sure I'd take that eBay auction as a representative sample. The winning bidder is a newb with one previous transaction. He/She started at $50 and ran it up, mostly against one other competitor. Classic eBay craziness.

+1 couldn't get mine stolen.

I loved the thing, but not even close to being my size. I could comfortably ride it...not far. I was definitely amazed at the ride though. They must've also sold a ton more U08s than any other bike here in the PacNW too, because I see them EVERYWHERE.

Until I looked at the No PX-content thread, I had never seen one with the original saddle or front derailleur. Mine's got a Suntour Seven front. Works better than anything else on the bike!

Yeah.... you're right. Still......... I have a nice yellow Peugeot mixte frame set sitting in my garage. Maybe time for an experiment?

I remember seeing a univega mixte frame set going for around $300 a while back, it wouldn't surprise me to see a mixte go through the roof... I haven't found one in years.

Just to follow up.....

As an experiment, I tossed up a Peugeot mixte frame set up awhile ago for a BIN of $250. Didn't get it, didn't expect to, really. Kept dropping the price until I finally sold it for $150 plus shipping.

I am never, ever building out another of these POS Peugeots. I'll fix and flip one with minor flaws, but anything with bigger issues is getting stripped and listed.
