Fun project I picked up on a trade over the weekend (NOS content)

Thought this would make a great project to build up for my girlfriend and I over the next few months. I have a feeling it might be hard to find a fork for it though. I have never seen another one like it, or could find no info on google so anything anyone might know about it would be greatly appreciated.

Updated progress: Found a fork on ebay who's pictures didnt show the true shape of the fork. Did a quick mock up with wheels i had laying around, still waiting for the bottom bracket.

Sweeeet! That could be a very cool bike, man!

I have the perfect fork for you. I'm not sure if it is Reynolds or Columbus (or either), but it's high quality, lugged, chrome with Campagnolo dropouts and has a short steerer. 26.4 race seat. Email if you're interested.

Saw that as well and thought about emailing the seller for some more info, looked super cool. Great to see some better photos of it. You end up with that Team Manitoba track frame too?

Unfortunately not, one expensive build up is all I think i can muster for the summer. If it wasnt so small it'd be another story.

Any ideas on how to build it up? I think I have some Victory bits in the closet.

I find the Victory and Triomphe groups terribly ugly, but that's just my opinion.

What's the rear spacing? An older 8sp Ergo group would be really nice.

I assume it's designed for 700c. Have you checked?

Its true, its not all that pleasing to the eye but finding parts up here can be difficult. Rear spacing is 126mm, and 700c.

thanks for the suggestion!

Whats the clearances like on this frame? I've never really seen a loop style frame done as a high-end racer.

How about a shimano Alfine IGH and some Campy cranks.

Don't listen to this guy. He's been drinking too much of the IGH kool-aid.

That hanger is there for a reason. You'll get more useable gears out of a 2x7 drive train for a lot less money than building a 5, 7 or 8 sp IGH. This is a blanket statement and it depends on the intended use and terrain in your area.

Agreed. Although this bike will not see any racing, it will be used for commuting and recreational riding. IGH would be a nice option for this style frame but would like to stick with derailleurs.

Its funny though because if the top tube was horizontal it would very much resemble a true road racing frame. I'm not too sure how the geometry is yet, but despite the loop style frame this bike has some very "race" type ques.

Is that top tube chromed?

That's awesome for a mixte, I don't think I've seen a mixte frame that nice

It's not a mixte. It has only two sets of rear stays.

Not sure if you've got a wheelset lined up / want anything to do with tubulars but I've got a 700c set laced to Miche Competition hubs that have been sitting in my basement for too long...

ColonelJLloyd's fork has a steerer tube that is a bit too short. Really looking for a fork with about 150mm steerer!!

I agree, derailleur hanger and downtube shifter bosses tend to mean derailleurs, not IGH. Well, you could put a Sturmey Archer 5-sp hub with its shifter on one boss; two cogs; a derailleur on the hanger, it's shifter on the other boss, but that's probably too funky for such a fine machine.

What amuses me about this is the combination of step-through frame and such ostentatious raciness; as if a serious biker chick would ride in a skirt. I like it.

Since this is my first time dealing with a brand new frame, do i need to get the BB threads chased before installation? Also, is there a way to know what thread type it is?

it's 99% likely to be Italian: measure the shell width (70mm or 68mm?). You might want to have the BB shell chased and faced, but it might be fine as-is, try a BB unit in it for a trial fitting and see how it goes in (once you determine the threading, of course).
Scapin made a "Lady Scapin" that is a true Mixte, but not as nice as this Faggin:

What's to say it isn't a real Faggin? Sure has enough engraved parts to be one - unless someone found a bunch of spare Faggin lugs and stay caps.
