Quill seat-stems

Ok, I've been hitting a brick wall looking for a saddle that will fit a quill seat stem, as it appears very few bikes had this feature. Does anyone out there know where i could locate a saddle that would fit a quill seat stem? or does anyone have any tried and true conversions? or are there any converters available for retail? Any info would be fantastic, I would really love to get this kabuki up and rolling. Thanks all!

What post do you have? The few quill posts I have had will mount conventional seats.

Have you looked at Brooks saddles with the original brooks seat cluster clamp thingy? I think the clamp will turn to a horizontal position to fit the seatpost.

To my knowledge, there are no special saddles for quill seat posts. I have owned two bikes with quills and both had basic, standard saddles. one of them, I removed and put on my Brooks. The old Schwinn aluminium rides that used quills also had standard saddles. I'm thinking you're making too much of this.

The Moser quill seatpost uses a standard saddle too.

the seatpost

below is the seatpost i am working with. I could see a brooks old saddle possibly working, but a vintage brooks would be too much for my budget. I just need to find an old schwinn or bridgestone at a yard sale i think. but check out the post and let me know if you guys know of any work-arounds or readily available hardware.

You just need a seat clamp.

Yep, a standard seat clamp would work fine. Any bike shop should have one.

You don't need a special saddle for these and an old style clamp should be nearly free... tightening and adjusting these is more of a pain than anything else.

See you have a Bridgestone with Al lugs there... thinking these are more common than I once thought.

I'm pretty sure I've got a clamp that will work that I will never use. Just PM me your address and it's yours.

I believe there are two clamp sizes. 7/8" is the most common and probably the size your post requires.

And I thought only the French were goofy enought to use quill seatposts........
Atax did make quill seatposts for a few Peugeot models in the mid 80's, so that could be an alternative for you if you want to move over to a more modern clamping system.....that's if they make the right diameter for your bike, .........and if you can even find one these days, they are getting rarer every year and the prices have gone up considerably.

That's a 25.8 mm post.

You can also convert a post by using the original wedge and a very long bolt.
