to answer your question: Shimano did (do?) make "flatter" ones.

but I don't have a part number for you to search on.

good to know they exist. I think ill be able to get away with the stock ones. It just looke funny when i tried it out. I wanted to post to make sure it didnt affect the function of the shifters before purchasing them. I dont like the idea of stressing the boss adapters at the top and bottom for fear they might crack but at the same time they are not torqued down tight or anything. I think it should be fine.

You need to take some time with a Dremel and a sanding wheel to make them radius the tube properly. The tube will be happier, the mount will be happier, and ultimately you'll be happier too. Had the same problem with my Dancelli w/MAX tubing, all it takes is 10 minutes or so but the paint will last much longer...

can you buy the bosses seperately? Id hate to screw them up and not be able to replace them. THey should be a cheap part being that they are all plastic...but knowing shimano they will be half the price of the shifters....

Not easy to order in my experience, but sometimes you can find them in your LBS. I have extras if you screw one up.
