Scorcher mutt project COMPLETE! Pics!
I've been smiling ear to ear all day and have blown off anything I was "supposed" to do to ride my new scorcher mutt. I am in love with it, I hope you like it!
It's a pre 1919 Columbia Roadster frame with Iver Johnson forks. Rims were NOS Westwood style I had dechromed and painted satin black. Spokes are vintage (new nipples). Rear hub is a Perry 40/14, front is New Departure (maybe 30's).
Original Pope cranks and chain ring
Ideale saddle, unknown drop bars and stem
Grips are new cork grips I cut down then distressed. Someday I'll get the real deal

That is a way-cool bike. I wouldn't even know where to start looking for parts for something that! How does it ride? The frame geometry looks very modern, but the saddle and bar positions must put the rider in a very different stance.

You lucky dogg. I'd love to have one of those! As well as one that was mass produced and not valuable so I could put a bike motor on it and have myself an old time board racer... Leather helmet, goggles, mustache and all

Very interesting. Now please give me some historical context. For example, how does this compare with the "stock" bikes of that era. The many of you who rode these when they were new could give your first hand experiences.

Thanks everyone!
It rides pretty good all things considered, although my aging back isn't as happy as I am, lol.
Well it's a mutt because it's a mix of a bunch of brands from different era's.
It was built in the "scorcher" style, which was popular in the 1890's. Basically guys would drop their bars really low, ride fast and terrorize the cobblestone streets, lol.
Here's a quick little video explaining....

It looks like a blast! So the wheels are 28"? I guess they'd have to be for the proportions to be right.

That is so cool. As for the frame I wouldn't do something with cantilever frame as demensions are way relaxed to a standard diamond frame. Plus the cantilever designed came out in 1938 and these were like turn of the century and before.

I'll bet it cost a lot less than ANT bike's scorcher:
