Centurion Ironman Bottom Bracket BB Question 1988 88
Hi there I have a centurion ironman master year 1988 white and purple smoke with shimano 600 6400 tricolor components(6400 biopace crankset).
Bottom bracket is a tange cup and cone .
BB Shell width 68mm
BB spindle length 120mm
Looking to get shimano cartridge bearings UN55. Sheldon brown lists 113-115mm and saw Ex Pres and RobbieTunes posted 115mm-116 is fine for an 89 master. What size spindle do I get. thanks

If you are keeping the tricolor crankset, I think you're fine with 113 all the way to 116. I was not aware the OEM spindle was that wide.
I've stuck many a cartridge BB back in those, and I think the tapered part is simply shorter on the newer cartridge BB's than on the OEM bearing/cup BB's.
For some reason, I thought I used a UN52. I'd send you my UN55, new, but I think it's 123.

Yep, agreed, Robbie. Anything in the 113-116 range will work just fine with 640X on an Ironman.
On some bikes I've been able to use a 110 but don't think I've ever done that with an Iron.
120 is like Sugino triple territory, but also recall that the 85 Ironman I had several years ago had something in the 123 range for pre-tricolor 6207, which I replaced with a 115.

I put a 113mm or 116mm cartridge in my 1987 Ironman (I had it out for a ride today).
BTW, I've used 118mm Shimano cartridges with Stronglight and TA cranks.
