1978 Schwinn Le Tour 12.2

I recently rescued what I think is a 1978 Le Tour 12.2.
One interesting note. The bike says it is made of 4130 steel.
Most of the Le Tours made until 1984 were 1020 carbon steel.

After the first ride, I repaced the Shimano 600 rear derailleur and the 60 front derailleur with mid 80's Suntour ARX. Suntour ARX were used on the mid-80's Le Tour's. I replaced the Dia Comp brakes with Shimano 600 ex side pull brakes. I replaced the wheels with wheels skillfully built for me by K&G Bike Shop in Kettering Ohio. Suntour sealed bearing hubs, nice stainless spokes, and Weinmann rims.

The second ride was awesome!

1978 brochure page lists the frame as "double butted chrome-moly top and down tubes".

3746 should mean it was assembled on the 374th day of a year that ends in a 6.

Yes. 1976 was the year I graduated from High School. It was a very long year.

It's a 1976 Le tour. With Forged dropouts, I knew it was older than 1978. Later models had stamped dropouts. Very nice Le Tour, my size too. I happen to have a 1980 model.
