Right; that's why the u-brake generation mtbs were somewhat problematic offroad but make great drop bar conversion projects since they tend not to have long top tubes. My 1989 specialized stumpjumper comp (with a u brake) works well with drop bars for this reason.

I like the 1.5 over the 1.25; makes the bike more sure footed over crummy roads and trails.
