I bought the thing for about 20$ less than Bens Cycles could offer from somebody on ebay. It appears mint with no wear, original packaging etc..I was doubting the design but now it does make sense.
Brooks saddles feature rivets at the rear of the saddle...Gyles is not in the same position, it won't wear if you are a "rivet rider." I have always been more comfy on the rivets but Brooks saddles give me fatigue. The comfort is nice...The leather breathing is always better than plastic and foam.
I also think the design of the plastic at the rear of the saddle with it's more rounding shape than the Brooks sharp metal points, leads to more effective seat positions without wearing down the hide too much.
My greatest hope is that the 5mm cnc'd leather will really be worth the expense.
I've been riding mine for about a year and a half. Compared to a Brooks B17 (which is what I have on most of my bikes), comfort level is pretty much the same, but I think the Berthoud will last longer. It's been subjected to soaking rains and wet butts, and the leather has darkened a bit, but no sag or dimples.
