You don't understand...you can't just leave a perfectly good fence post laying around out in the yard, somebody'll walk off with it. Solution: Lock it to those bikes that nobody wants.
(I remember reading of a person who had an old refrigerator to get rid of, so they put it out by the road with a sign, "Free Refrigerator". Nobody took it. So they put a sign on it that said "Refrigerator- $40" and the next night, somebody stole it.)
