'79 Peugeot Super Sport stem/headset

Hey, i just found a very nice 79 peugeot super sport in a dumpster, it is in great condition, but i need a new stem for it. I know that french forks and i believe stems are different sizes. i have already checked the BB and cranks and they are both french threaded so i assume that the fork and stem are french as well, i just dont know how to tell if they are, and if they are what could i replace the stem with? or would i have to replace everything in the front end? (stem, fork, headset) thanks

Just find a French stem. Won't be hard.

Is your Peugeot French or Canadian? Trust me, the Canadian ones are common in some parts of North America...

The only differennce between mine and the one you posted are the crank and the gear levers. my crank is this:

and my gear levers are situated on the stem. but i actually found some stems that would fit on ebay, so i may grab one of those

A standard 7/8" stem can easily sanded down to 22 mm. If you buy a French-size stem you will probably have to buy French-size bars.

What does the tubing decal say or look like? This is what a Canadian made Peugeot tubing decal will look like...

My tubing sticker has the big 103 but the rest of the wording is different and is all in french. it says tubing special instead of tube/tubing and instead of the fabrique au/made in Candada it says fabrique par Cycles Peugeot. i already believe it is a french made peugeot

Start hunting for French threaded and sized stuff. Not as bad as you might think, or so I've been told. I have no trouble finding French Stuff myself. Just walk 75 feet to The Old Shed and Oh, La, La...
