Information about a Mondia

Can anyone give me more information about a Mondia bike I bought. I know it's a swiss bike and after the serial number it's probably from the 80's. It's serial number is 357900 with the number 6 underneath and 73 on the front. It has Weinmann 730 brakes on the front, and Weinmann 810 on the back. The front tire is a 22 and the back one a 32. The hubs are Maillard, the front one has the numbers 26/83 stamped on it, and the back one has 01/84. The front derailleur is a Suntour Spirt and the rear derailleur is a Exage Motion. On the handlebar it says Kusuki and the crankset it's Sugino No. 6.

Cool bike, but get that Daffy Duck saddle off of there.

Could you snap a drive side photo so we could really see what you have there?

probably from the '80s, and since the older Maillard hub says "84 that would be a fair guess. Looks to be a lower-end model given the flat-plate Esge brake "bridge" and that there's no tubing decal (probably "Hi-Ten steel" tubing) and the components. But at least you get lugs, a headbadge, chrome fork and a hint of the trademark "fade" paint these are famous for.

I picked up a mid-seventies Super Mondia a couple of years ago. You might want to have a look at the feature article I wrote for it on MY "TEN SPEEDS".

Hope this helps.

Any kind of information would be nice. The badge didn't say it was a Super Mondia, so I figured it wasn't a high-end model, but it's still a nice ride. The "Daffy Duck" saddle is from the previous owner. I will change it, but first I'll take care of the brakes. I went for a ride today and it was scary. A photo of the drive side, and one of the drive train.

The front fork was never painted, it was only chromed and it had a decal. The decal was almost all pealed off.
Thank you for the link randyjawa, I didn't find that one while searching information about the mondia. I plan to change the crankset, the chain and the sprockets. Would it be easier to find a 5 speed freewheel or maybe 6, or to change the whole back wheel and spread the frame?

I'm looking at my 1980 Mondia Super, and comparing it to yours. They are very different beasts.

First off - I'm going to guess that the drive train on yours is not original to the frame, and if so might not be of value in determining year/model. Also, I'm wondering about whether the fork is a replacement - every Mondia I've seen has "Mondia" engraved/pantographed on the crown, and I don't recall ever seeing a Mondia that had a full chrome fork - chrome ends, yes. Does yours say "Mondia" on the crown? If so, the previous owner may have stripped off the paint to get at the chrome underneath. I see something there but can't make it out, and the crown lug looks like mine.

Mine has brake cable guides on the top tube, but randyjawa's example has the same three underside guides you have. The flat rear brake bridge is odd, and while both my and randyjawa's example have long pointed lugs with cut-outs - yours does not. In addition, both my randyjawa's example have brazed on cable guides on the top of the bottom bracket - again, yours does not.

I am no expert - just pointing out my observations in the hope that it might help.

I think you are right, the fork is not engraved. Probably the previous owner changed the front fork. The handlebars are bent a little on the left side, probably from a crash. After the crash maybe the front fork was replaced. The difference in the lugs may be caused by the fact that my bike is a lower-end one, and they didn't use the more ornate lugs. The cable routing seems similar to randyjawa's.

After some searching on the internet I found this page https://www.vintage-trek.com/component_dates.htm and it seems the brakes are from 1983. All the information seems to fit, the brakes, the wheel hubs and the serial number on the frame point to the year 1984. Thank you for your help.
