Univega Ital Sport or Gran Rally

Hey all, I have a univega gran rally (actually two) one is 50cm and one is 54, I just picked up a 52cm ital sport because Im trying to dial in my size and I think the 52 is where Im at. I wanted to know your opinion on which is the higher quality bike. The gran rally(that I ride) is the 50cm with nice upgraded 27in wheels, full shimano 600 arabesque group and tange champion double butted molybdenum. The Ital Sport is a mix of campy and shimano components, 105 rear d. hard anodized araya 700c's, and a chromoly triple butted frame. I will probably go with which ever one fits better, but I wanted people opinion on these two bikes. Also if anyone is interested in a 54cm gran rally in great shape let me know. Thanks all.

Another question, right now on the 700c arayas I have 23c tires, What is the widest size tire I can go on these? This ital sport is significantly rougher than the gran rally with 1 1/4 tires. Thanks

Assuming the 700c23's are original size that came with the bike then you could safely go to a 25.

As for the bikes, if the Ital Sport is original is should have Campy components either Victory or Triomphe (Triomphe was lower level then Victory) and a triple butted frame. The Gran Rally used Shimano 600 (the old name for Dura Ace) and some used Suntour Cyclone and triple butted tubing. Both frames were made by Miyata. I think the Gran Rally was the better of the two models because the Shimano 600 and especially the Suntour Cyclone were better then either of the two Campy models.

Not quite correct. 600 is the old name for Ultegra. Crane was the old name for Dura Ace.
    Laterally stiff yet vertically compliant.

Thanks for correcting me, I got the two confused. Regardless, the 600 stuff was better then the Campy Victory or Triomphe.
