Yesterday I traveled to Vermont to go for a ride with Frank the Welder and his lovely wife Laney. The funny thing was we crossed the river and rode in NH. I collected another Snow Plow Memorial photo. This one in Alstead, NH.
Today I passed a State Highway Garage and collected this one, a wing plow, which pushes the snow back from the road even further.
How about a few shots from Frank's shop?
Just a few of Frank's vintage collection.
The aftermath of Frank's regular work. It is hard to describe the coolness of Frank's shop.
Frank and Laney on the ride.

I have an old high-school friend who's thinking of moving from AZ to WA in the next year (the last of her kids is grown and flown). She and hubby are thinking Port Townsend, which is just across the way - by ferry - from Whidbey Island. She wondered if I could get some pics of the area for her. So I turned it into a nice ride on the Mondia today.
I got the main pics of downtown and the waterfront, then headed for Fort Worden and then did a circumnavigation of the peninsula. Before I headed out, I noticed that - once again - my headset was loosening up. Uh-oh - do I dare take it to PT's one and only bike shop?
Turned out I needn't have worried; they were all about C&V - heck, they had a '74 Colnago Super and an 80s Colnago Victory up on their sale racks and the owner said he'd just seen a nicely preserved Raleigh International an hour or so before. The mechanic checked the size and took care of it immediately while they both asked questions about the refinish, year and components. Good guys. Heck, I even met two other cyclists with vintage rigs on the ferry on the way over (a Motebecane Super Mirage and a Miyata somthing - the Moto had 650s and vintage TA/Campy drivetrain).
Port Townsend overlook, coming back into town:
The Mondia on top of one of the batteries at Fort Worden (the pedals were part of a trade with Shnibop - thanks, Alex!):
This would be me, enjoying a perfect-weather day:
Tomorrow I'm committed to drilling, so I was happy to get in a great ride today

It's very hard to explain how they translate, honestly. Pictured, the Eagle (little wheel in the front) is a 50", the ordinary is a 52" [diameters]. The wheels also have about an inch added from tire. That * pi = one pedal rotation's wheel rotation, or your gear inches, but because it's direct drive, it's harder to pedal. You're looking at 161" and 166" gear inches, respectively (or nearly 14 feet traveled per pedal rotation). It's fun counting pedal rotations while climbing, and realizing how long a specific hill was.
People try to compare it to a fixed gear, and while you can get close, the physics of direct drive, aerodynamics and simply posture make a modern bike much "quicker". Add in very short cranks, flats with no clips/clipless, the fact that these specific ordinaries weigh around 60-70lb (there were light roadsters in the 30 range, and racers in the 20s, but they are rare and delicate) and a single hand position - I think you know what I'm getting at.

Had a cousin of my wife's from Germany and his family staying with us the past four days and have been doing the tourism thing:
Both families at about 6,000 ft elevation:
The popular local rock climbing location - saw cars from Canada, California, Tennessee and Illinois - didn't realize it was that popular;
Me, my youngest daughter Victoria, and one of the German relatives:
My oldest daughter and me at a local horse sculpture location - definitely hot there yesterday:
Finally, had a little excitement in front of us on the interstate yesterday:

The family spent Friday and Saturday in San Francisco -- our "last hurrah" before school starts on Wednesday.
The view from the apartment; Ahhhh, summer in SF:
Friday we went on a "family and friends" tour of LucasArts/Industrial Light and Magic at the Letterman Digital Arts Center. While not quite "behind the scenes" it was cool to view props, matte paintings, models, and other memorabilia from George Lucas' films. Beautiful campus and work environment, BTW.
In the lobby waiting for our friend/tour guide to arrive:
The requisite C&V bike pic -- E.T. riding his vintage Kuwahara:
After the tour we stopped by Thorough Bread and Pastry for a snack:
A couple of pics for the ladies of C&V -- a beautiful Electra Ticino parked outside the bakery:
On Saturday we went to the Picasso exhibit at the de Young Museum.
No photos allowed inside, of course. It was a fantastic exhibit and a real treat for our son who was "schooling" me about Picasso's various periods. Afterward, I found that my son and I had the same favorite from the exhibit -- Man with a Mandolin:

I saw the lights up ahead and was in the left lane. Figured it was a routine traffic stop. My wife starts telling me to slow down which I was doing and then everyone jammed on the brakes. I was driving a 15 passenger Ford van - they don't stop on a dime. I stopped 6 ft short of the Jeep in front of me. The guy behind went left toward the ditch to avoid me. Semi-truck to the right of me locked the brakes up with my brother-in-law directly behind him. Quite an interesting moment to say the least.

This pic was stolen of me by local BF member Vicelord today. Figured I'd share with the world some more high wheel love.

Played an N+1 version of Tug O War with some kids at Camp. They started with a 4 member team and added a camper every 15 seconds. 4 of us held them for 2 minutes 30 seconds...... then everything blew out. Not bad...it took 14 campers to take us down! I pulled Anchor on the team, next year I'm bringing cleats!
Borrowed a full suspension MTB afterwards and rode some trails....think I like rigid frames better.

I was on vacation last week. I took my son on one ride to the liquor store, because that's what responsible fathers do. not only that, i'd forgotten his helmet.
I wore mine though so don't worry....
i imagine i should have secured that bottles a little better. As we were riding i heard a clangin' and looked around back to find this

Just what we need, another picture thread.
Post your pictures of your bike RIGHT NOW. Are you using it for lowly commuting? Moving stuff? Post it.
Is the pic artsy? Who gives a rats ass. Just give me something to look at.
I'll start. My Lotus, which I rode down to the coffee shop in my town today to work from, away from the wife and kids.
yeah, the picture quality sucks. Maybe when the sun moves I'll be able to get another one without having to move the bike, which I'm too lazy to do.
So go use your cell phone or whatever, and snap a picture and post it here. I really don't even care if it's bike related. Just do it!
Please and thank you.

Pic from yesterday's hot steamy and sweaty south Alabama ride "out in the country." Even the cows were sweating.
