snarkypup, I just sold my 22T sprocket. I'm going to buy a 24T! While I wait for it, I'm back to riding the 18T. Ick.

Here is the reason why he stayed still for 30 miles.

He loves smoothie at South Prairie trail head, plus he knows if he fall off the bike at 16mph it will hurt really bad.

Was your son riding by himself or on a trailer bike?

Oh, man! I'm not especially into drillium, but that's pretty hot. I like the drilled lever body especially. I'm thinking a little leather upholstery stitched to the top would be a nice way to make up for rubber hoods.

I'd stay on for one of those! Yum!

He rides his own bike, now that he has one with gears. The most he's done is about nine miles, which isn't too bad for a seven year-old. I hear tales from other moms of kids his age doing 10-12 miles or more, but I think there's some bragging going on there. My kid's normal size for his age, and very patient with an exceptionally long attention span, and that's too far for him. Going about six seems his best milage. I suppose there are some big seven year-olds who can muscle along for longer rides, but he just loses steam.

Here he is with his steed, a cheap-o BMX-ish thing from Performance Bike that he thinks is the bee's knees:

One of these days, I'll get that seat up all the way. I'm doing a bit at time until he gets used to it. I raised it about a half inch yesterday, so it's higher than you see here, though not by much.

See, I'm rocking the 20t. It was perfect for me. Hills are easier, though by no means easy, and that third gear is my absolute gear of choice for long rides. I love that thing. It's like I'm flying. That's how I get 17mph on a Sports . I wouldn't want to lose it.

I can see why a 22 or 24 would be wonderful for hills. This is why the new bike I'm building up slowly will have more speeds. Then I can have the best of both worlds: a lower gear for hills, and that higher gear for flats. I've become quite a serious hill climber, though, with that 20t. I should go out for an alpine stage...

Those are actually going to a BF member as part of a trade. I'm getting my first-ever pair of Super Record TI-spindled pedals as part of my end. Woo-hoo!

Thanks, my dog ( Lacey) is a 100% bundle of energy and can play 24/7 but she is the most head strong dog I have ever owned so I call her Piggle my Pitbull Beagle lol. My Bronco really looks better in person then in photos it is that nice, Original low mileage truck when I bought it 5yrs ago and still only showing 90,000 it's a 1993 w/351 & loaded.

thanks for the reply, your dad has a mighty nice utilty truck there. I'm more of fan of back road exploring and camping rather than "extreme 4 wheeling" which seems to be the more popular thing to do these days.

My bike this morning. It's on the top cog because I am trying to adjust the RD, it doesn't want to shift there, the shifter clicks and then clicks back down. It won't shift to that gear unless you hold hold it until it shifts. For the record the RD shifter is indexed, the FD shifter is not.

Scozim, Roger M and I did a nice rolling ride of about 45 miles around Lake Stevens/Snohomish/Lake Roessinger today. My climbing was pathetic compared to those two; Scott has some serious fast-twitch muscle and Roger just spins away. I sweated on the back - but I was able to hang it out on the downhills so we kept together. Temps in the low 80s, not a cloud in the sky - and Roger picked a great route that took us through a lot of shady rollers.

Roger (L) and Scott (R) on one of the climbs:

It was a good day for a ride. Thanks Scott and Jeff for the invite. I think Scott has a battery pack in his seat tube, along with an electric motor geared to the bottom bracket...

As they say, pictures don't do justice. This is one pretty bike. Oh, and DD's bailout gear is what...42x17??..
