Vintage Bianchi Mountain Bike... converted to commuter?

I'm curious to see what people think or know about this bike

Its a vintage Bianchi Mountain Bike converted to a commuter bike...

I really like frame and the brakes... and old school bars

Is there a better uses for this bike... ie... convert to a touring bike? Would you be able to run 700c wheels and 700x35 tires?

It looks like you have the clearance, but I doubt the brakes would reach properly. You might just be better off getting some 26 inch slicker tires to make it easier on the streets.

You might be able to stuff 700s in there, but I doubt you'd have room to swing a 35mm tire. Also, you'd have to convert to caliper brakes as the canti studs will not allow the pads and the rim to line up, unless you got very, very lucky.

That's OK, there are loads of very good street tires available in 559. Plus this way there is ample room for fender clearance, even with spiked snow tires. I'd say that if you'e considering buying it, to go ahead and do so. It looks to be a solid bike with decent components; it's a great platform for further upgrades and certainly won't let you down even if you keep it bone-stock.

it looks like a '84 Alaska with a ChroMoly (main tubes?) and Hi-Tension frame with a HiTension fork. all shimano 5 spd with Polygon brakes.

I might put thinner tires, but I don't think I would start changing alot of parts. it is cool looking with that double fork crown though. I agree with Captn Blight about the 700cs.

the tires look bigger than x1.5s
