Question re 1989 Fisher Procaliber and pressure fitted BB cartridge
I am just beginning a restoration of a 1989 Fisher Procaliber MTB and am dealing with a new to me mechanical challenge.
As described in the original specs, it has a pressure fitted BB cartridge, which is a little stiff. I either want to remove and replace it or try to resurrect it. So, I am seeking your advice.
1) How do I pull the BB?
2) When I do, what am I likely to find, i.e., a smooth BB shell or a threaded one which will allow me to install a threaded replacement?
3) Is there anyway to resurrect the existing BB?
Thanks
Actually, after looking at the spec sheets,

it appears that the BB is pressure fitted but not a cartridge.

The bearings are press-fit. You can use a bearing puller (not one of the little ones) to get them out. If they are trashed, you can use a hammer. The BB is smooth, no threads. Replace/put old bearings back in with a bearing press, or worst case, threaded rod with two very large washers.

If it is just a little stiff, I'd leave well enough alone. Personally, I think all cartridge BB's are a little stiff compared to cup & cone.
I've got one in an 85 Fisher Montare and it is still doing great.

Can't help on removal. VO does sell a threadless BB for use where the BB threads are damaged.

I am certain there are lots of threads on this and maybe a park video. I agree about it being stiff, I would clean everything really good and see how it feels with cranks.
I suspect the ID if the shell is too big for that velobase BB.
does this have that 1 1/4" HS? I think I have stem somewhere for on of those.

Yes, I tend to agree. The BB is not that stiff and about the same as a full length cartridge. So I will leave it alone. I also admit that adjustable cup BBs, as much as I hate to work on them, spin more smoothly than either.
