Peugeot PX-10 or other?
Hello, I have had a peugeot for 30 years, thinking it was a PX-10. I have ridden it as a commuter bike since then. However, after reading many of the threads at this site, I am no longer sure. I'd appreciate the groups opinion on what model the bike is. I don't have the means to refurbish it, but thought that someone might be interested in it, and if so, I may sell it.
Here's a link to photos http://home.earthlink.net/~lenbowes/...ot/peugeot.htm Here's a little history: I bought the bike 2nd hand, then over the years made the following changes (that I can recall) -Had new wheels built for it, but kept the hubs (campy, I believe). The original tires were 'sew-ups'. -Put on a new cassette -Changed from the original Simplex black/silver plastick rear deraileur and levers to newer Simplex deraileur (probably 25 years ago) -Added new seat/seatpost (unfortunately, didn't keep the old seat) Otherwise the parts came with the bike when I bought it. Any help with the model type would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Great! Thanks much for taking the time to look for a newbie, and putting this out there for the group to look at. Len

Yours may actually be a PX10E, identical to a PX in materials but with a slightly different geometry. The decals put it in the early seventies sometime; the "E" was from 1973, with the fancy nervex lugs-- the regular PX's at this time had plain lugs. The shifters look like an upgrade from stock-- they're simplex retrofriction, the best friction shifters ever made. The original hubs would have been Normandy Competitions. Nice bike, have fun!

The black plastic Simples levers and derailleurs it originally came with are throwing me off. I'm not as familiar with older Peugeots as others here.....Older Px-10's didnt come with the plastic stuff, did they?

Yup, that's a PX10.
Used to race one of those back in the mid-70s. 21 lbs. came with sewups. Although 'plastic', the Simplex der. worked great and cut a bit of weight. And those Mafac Racer brakes were simple and worked great. Nice memories, but now I'm riding carbon fiber! |

Thanks you guys for chiming in. Zona, cool that you used to race one!

That's a real nice bike. One of my favorite bikes was an early 80's Peugot, I forget the model but it was very similar to yours, at least in color and looks.
