C&V Smile and shake your head.....

A recent group ride, 580 riders.
Registration, as usual, with bikes sitting all over the place.
I leaned my "Miami Vice" Ironman up against a table, signed up, and looked around.

A small group of women were at my bike, looking it over.
"It's kind of pretty." .....a couple of nods....

"I've never seen one of those." ...as she traces her finger along the L-shape of the quill stem....

drrobwave looks at me and grins.

Have you had a moment?

this is the best thing about pink bikes

I get a lot of comments on both of my bikes, but not due to them being C&V as much as them being very attractive girls especially seem to dig my seafoam green diamondback with bright yellow rack

After a 20 hiatus from cycling, I volunteered at the San Diego Century in 2007.
For several hours I was drooling. One of my fellow volunteers commented about my staring, thinking that I was 'appreciating' the healthy, attractive women.
I tried to explain that although I have a healthy, attractive bride at home -- I couldn't take my eyes off all the bikes. Not too many C&V, but tons of new technology, sloping top tubes, and funny (skinny, slotted) saddles.
It was culture shock, and I was overwhelmed by it.

I went home a found a 20 year old steel bike in my size.
I might 'notice' the young ones, but there's no substitute for classic.

the other day I was waiting at a traffic light on my C&V by (not in cyclists kit) when a young Italian woman pulled up next to me on a very snazzy road bike, talking away on her cell. She quit the conversation and looked with a condescending grin at my bike, thinking it would take me days to get up to speed. When the light hit green she found herself chasing me very doggedly the next 5 km's or so. Sadly we parted without saying a word, but maybe that was better after all because hot italian chicks on pinarello's are just a bit to dangerous to a monogamous lifestyle

My bike was getting the look yesterday, but it was another pre-geezer with a fondness for old bikes. Like you.

Sunday on the train, on the way to the university, twice. One guy thought it looked like something from the '60s. And one old guy said it had been a long time since he'd seen a bicycle with fenders.

My girlfriend said it looked nice.

One guy at the co-op asked if I'd got it there.

There were some other looks but no comments.
