Fixed it up a lot recently - too many things to mention, brand new Weinmann levers though. Done 400 + miles with it the past couple of months in the DC area. You could say it treats me well.

Just finished this keen-O '87 Schwinn tempo restoration. Pretty close to the way it came form the factory, except for the Nitto stem (didn't have a nice polished 100cm SR Custom at the time), cartridge bottom bracket, Ritchey saddle (always disliked those brown suede SSM's), blue Pro 3's and Nashbar wrap (ditto on the original Ambrosio-ish bar ribbon). Nicest Tempo in original colorway I've ever had. 105 (1050 series) 6 double, shifts like the finest spread from contented cows.

For the Centurion lovers... 45cm Lemans on 650 C wheels.



Group is a mix of 105, 600 Tri C, and Exage Sport and I have a spare set of Mavics laced to 600 Tri C hubs with an 8 speed cassette.

My little sister is selling it and my daughter loves it... she has some good taste in bikes.

Many a tourist likes to spend most of their time up on the hoods and judging by the size and set up on the bike, am going to guess ocean hug has some pretty decent reach.

You might note that my Kuwahara has similarly raised bars although not to the same degree and the bar position is also higher than what you would do on a road bike to offer a middle position where riding in the drops is not as extreme and can be sustained for longer periods of time in great comfort.

I was looking at the entire set up and if the saddle was at fist height could see the position on the brifters to be a little off but think that oceanhug is one rather tall individual who could probably ride a taller frame than the Fuji which looks to be 55cm. Bet his riding position is fairly upright and not that aggressive or that the length of his legs is not matched by the length of his arms.

I'm still experimenting with the riding position, brifter placement, etc. here. I'm 6'1'' and on the last long ride, I found the riding position a bit too strenuous, so I brought the handlebars up a bit now. When I got this bike I had to bring the saddle up quite a bit which made the position more aggressive by placing the handlebars below the saddle. The frame is a 58cm as far I know, but the top tube on the bike is also quite long resulting in quite a stretched out, aggressive position.

Maybe the better way to do it will be to raise the brifters a bit. I previously had the Tektro RL340 (Campi Ergo clone) and I read that Shimano STI have to be placed a bit higher compared to Ergos -- so maybe that's why I put the brifters where they are now.

I know this thread is more about bike porn than bike *path* porn, but rccardr beat me with the nice blue-and-white Schwinn Tempo shots, so instead here's a soft-focus shot of my vintage blue-and-white '86 Schwinn Tempo on the trail about a mile above my house, on the route I take to work when I want my commute to be an hour, instead of 15 minutes. Up front, that's a handlebar bag full of indian paintbrush and forget-me-nots I picked along the way for my wife. (Awwww)

Cool. What's the frame? The seatstay wishbone sure is pretty.

Huh. Tricolor really bridged some serious technological changes, didn't it? I have tricolor dual pivot brakes on my Stowe. I didn't know they made single pivots as well. Add that to the 7 speed DT and the 8 speed STI shifters and there are a lot of different iterations. Was there ever an 8speed DT shifter?

Frame and fork was built by Brad Proctor of Proctor / Townsend back in the 90's... came to me with a mix of Modolo, Cyclone, and Superbe parts and as I had some, but not all of a 600 tri colour group, I bought the 8 speed brifters and 600 brakes and have a set of 600 tri colour hubs I will build into some proper (and lighter) wheels.

We suspect the rear wishbone stay might have been sourced from Strawberry Cycles in Oregon... I have another one of these frames and the tubing is Reynold's 853 on that although with a custom frame the tubing may have been changed to suit a particular build.

As it sits the bike curbs out at 10kg / 22 pounds... expect that with the new wheels (28 spoke) and lighter tyres I should get close to 20 pounds which is rather decent for a steel road bike.

Yep, sure was. Shimano made 8 speed DT shifters in 640X, 1056, and R400L.

I have a soft spot for tricolor. I would take mine with 8spd downtubes, single pivot brakes, and 28h hubs laced to open 4cds.

Downgrading can be a lot of fun...

Replaced the Cyclone rear derailleur with this old thing...



Replaced the Cyclone front derailleur with it's mate...



Kept the Sugino crank... and those Superbe pedals are about as fine as they come. Might want something Campy there at some point.



Installed some vintage Matthauser brakes and combined with the Zeus centre pulls the stopping power does not get much better.



I know I have some Zeus straddles around here somewhere...



Campagnolo shifters work as well as the Zeus shifters...



NR seat post replaced the 600 with the microadjust (that now lives on my Proctor)... and only one guy makes a seat cluster this sexy.



Still have not settled on a stem... maybe my GB stem and rando bars would add to the British frame and fork.

I have some high flange Record hubs laced to tubulars that need glueing and will use those for special occasions... the Suzue / Araya wheels and Michelins are incredibly nice for day to day riding as they are smooth as silk and almost 0/0 wheels.

It is a great group... solid as a rock and Miamijim did a nice job of cleaning up the brifters I got from him.

Was a rainy day today so my ride plans were put off and I cleaned the shop instead... swapped an NR seatpost into my Cooper and moved it's 600 Aero Microadjust on to the Proctor along with the Fizik Nicene saddle I got with my Pugsley.

That seatpost is a gem... being able to dial it in by fractions of a degree is wonderful. The NR does this as well but it is a much cruder process.

That, my Tempo-straddling friend, is a very good question. But not relevant in this case, since I'm currently running a 28c on front and a 25c on back, both sort of questionable dried up looking gumwalls. And they do OK, as long as I'm not setting any speed records.

They're just stuff I had hanging over the workbench I put on until I get the nerve up to go full-disco on this bike and put on the shiny new white tires I have (also hanging over the workbench.) Hey, now; I know what you're thinking. But are white tires really any more ridiculous than white handlebar tape? I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Anyway, when fate hands you bike with a color scheme like that, I figure you just gotta run with it.

Make sure you post pics with the white tires. I had the same thought but then these 'digital blue' ones went on sale at PBK a couple years ago and I bought enough to last a long time...especially considering I'm still on the original pair. Am working on another Tempo that will use a digital blue/tabac set. But white---could be very cool.
