It's a Cateye Solar cyclocomputer cc-2000

My wife has a Cateye Solar on her early 1980s Colnago Super. Batteries had depleted to the point that it wouldn't display anything even in full sunlight. I recently put new rechargeable batteries in it and it came back to life after 20 years!

I have three mid '90s Vetta C-15 cyclo computers (color coded for different bikes). I had to rebuild all three due to oxidation in the bell switches (not ding ding, shape) and they work excellently once I found the owner's manual for one. When I was building the touring bike I found a NIB VDO wireless in the parts bin, no idea WRT vintage nor why I originally bought it. Old enough to be effected by outside radio signals as I can go from 17 MPH to 3 MPH or to 36 MPH in a nano second.

Late '70's/early '80's Pacer 2000 computer. Not mine, although I'm the kind of person who would hold on to something like this.

Description from an old post:

" You set the wheel diameter by opening the back and entering the binary number for the diameter by moving 8 tiny micro switches with a pencil tip. It used the flat Polaroid batteries. I had trouble with wet weather. It registered in hundredths of a mile."

Hi Thinktubes, you may recall this post where you mentioned you have some 70s computers? I had my 1980 Peugeot PKN10 stolen, and recovered from the 'finder' (story on several websites) but the lovely original Peugeot computer was missing, just like this one: https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3035/2596848354_124c7154fc_b.jpg
I would really love to find another - if you have anything similar/of the period please?
Thank you, Simon, London, UK.

There was one from 1973 that I remember, it used analog swing needle gauges for speed and cadence. I forget the name, it started with a W I think. Other than the few that were out there at the time, (it was really expensive) I saw one on ebay over the years, sold for over $400. There was some controversy at the 1974 National championships where Skarin had one on his bike for the individual Pursuit, they let him ride with it but there was quite a debate if he should be allowed to. It was if memory serves, about 3" x 5" x 1.25", not petite, wires to the hall effect sensors.

I wanted one, but the price was out of my league.

I have one of those. I thought the solar batteries were no longer available.

I also have a number of old Avocets and Cateyes and about 75% of them still work.

Hi, sorry to dredge up this old thread, but I don't have enough posts to send a private message to RFC. I have an old cateye solar that I still use. The cadence sensor cable broke and even though I spliced it together, it won't display the cadence. I'd be interested in purchasing your unit for parts, if you'd be willing to sell it. If you keep it, you can buy replacement batteries that will work, just not the rechargeable type. If interested, I can track down the number of the battery for you, they last about a year. Thanks, Tom The battery you'd need to replace the sr44r is a Duracell 303.

One problem that some of these old computer have is the limited or no availability of the original spec batteries for them.
The Avocet 20 I still have on one of my bikes still works, but the original mercury based battery is not made anymore. There is an equivalent that fits that you can get from places like Radio Shack, but I noticed that those replacements do not last nowhere near as long as the old ones did. Lucky if they even last a whole season.

Mine works most of the time, I have to keep away from really big pot holes or the display crashes.

It needs an (apparently) hard-to-find rechargeable battery. However, I took the old battery out, got the part number, Googled it and hit pay dirt. Unfortunately, after about a month or so the computer died again. Not sure why - perhaps the solar cells were shot. The computer was subsequently consigned to the graveyard of non-functioning electronic devices.

Here's an Nashbar i bought new in the box for $1 at a garage sale today. I
couldn't say how old it is, but I think it was originally bought as a gift since
someone tore the price tag off the side. The remaining bit of paper has yellowed.
and the glue residue has oxidized red. Anyone know anything about this unit??

Could either be a re-branded Avocet or a close copy of it. Should pretty much work like the Avocet as it has the same two button control design. Quite basic by today's standards, but was the best you can get, back in the mid 80's.
These two button computers were good and light enough that IIRC, LeMond along with many other pros, used such computers (most likely an Avocet 20 or 30) in big races like the TDF back in the 80's.

No wonder the battery's dead This is perfect for the mint condition '83 Univega Sportour mixte
I scored off CL minutes after if was posted "woman's bike, $60". I posted the wrong age on it
initially, but now it's officially an '83. I've put Club Roost terra cross 27" x 1 3/8" tires on it.
It's light, fast, strong. If I was 40 years younger and 80 pds. lighter I try the 'Tour Divide'
with it.

I remember the Pacer. Only 2 bike shops in Massachusetts sold them. This was 1980. The heart monitor was a belt thing, was optional & pretty heavy too. chris
