What year am I? Vintage Cinelli
My dad who recently passed away had a vintage Cinelli Model B. Looks to be mostly original? Minus bar tape, cable housing, tires, maybe saddle?
I'm thinking its probably late 60s or early 70s? Nice chrome lugs on everything but the top of the seat post. Chrome crown on the fork. All Campagnolo components (nuovo record mech). Memphisto rims. Serial number is strange? It is stamped 5185, then the 8 was stamped over with a 7. Nice medium blue color.
Would submit pictures, but I'm a new member and it won't let me.

Cinelli serial numbers are all over the map. Really nice condition, I think circa late 60's/70 is spot on. Great condition Model B.

Pull the locknuts on the Campy hubs to get date stamps.
Mephisto rims came in a 650B size and the pic appears to show a smaller front wheel. Any markings on the tires to prove my eyesight and judgement are failing?

From the standpoint of time, machine is sending mixed messages.
Chainset is 144mm BCD yet front mech is Gran Sport pushrod type.
Poster reports rear mech NR.
Bottom bracket cable guide/stop is Simplex.
Top tube brake cable braze-ons yet clamp-on chain stay stop.
Note dullness of paint on top tube compared with other frame tubes. Wonder if braze-ons a post manufacture addition....
Mephisto rims suggestive of an earlier epoch.
Universal 61 brake calipers with Campag brake levers.
Cinelli headset.
Plain steel saddle pillar. One might have expected at least a Nitor from this era.
Possible hubs may be NT with R skewers.
If original owner had purchased it as a fameset and built it up on their own, this might explain some of the apparent in inconsistencies.
Cycle has certainly seen some attention. Perhaps our experts shall be able to suss it...

This is so cool, my Dad didn't ride much but he helped make sure I had some good bikes, passed the wrenching and motorcycle gene on to me and I will never forget him for that.

For a machine of this time one would expect it to exhibit the 74mm shell.
My guess is that it is just slightly too late for the 74 and shell will measure 70mm.
A simple thing for your to check...

Nice looking bike in good shape ! From what I can see it's pre-70 as there are no holes in the lugs.
Is there a serial number please ? Look on the underside of the bottom bracket.
Cinelli serial numbers are all over the map with no sequence or discernable pattern, however, using the Cinelli Registry it's possible to get an approximation of when the bike left via Edgido Folli 45 Milano.
I started the Cinelli registry in 2002. Somebody else took it over in 2007, but it is no longer updated. I maintain a private copy and everytime I see a Cinelli on eboy I add the s/n to my private list.
So, share the S/N and I'll play it against the list.

My take is the top tube guides are a post mfg add on.
the seatpost is quite the way up- too tall for a Campagnolo unit to be mounted safely.
why are so many bikes shown now without pedals?
pet peeve- plenty of reasons, I know.
looks Model B from here- small details I cannot see from the one image ( imgur wanted me to create an account) such as bottom bracket oil port, spring hole above rear derailleur mount point may also help a date range, so does the Cinelli headset.
Even with the effort to document Cinelli serial numbers, there must have been a madman at the stamping station. Or, a way to confuse the Italian tax man?
in any event, this era of Cinelli road bike had classic all day handling, the bike took care of you.

Interesting "double strike" on the digits. No oil port, no lugs in holes, I'd guess 67-68. Probably repainted, agreed the braze on cable guides are a tell.
It's a nice bike. I think the frames were stamped when completed, before painting. So there was no sequence, altho there are clusters of numbers that are time contiguous.
I talked to one guy who picked his bike up in Milan and Cino asked him "what serial number do you want ?". He replied "8888" and that's what his bike is.

Strong Walker
Decals look identical to mine, as does, at least at an optical check, the geometry (chainstay length, brake clearance). Mine has the older forkcrown, wolf ear lugs and no braze ons. And a 6xxx serial (unsure that means a thing, but it seems most 5xxx a re either very early or very late Mod Bs).
There was this nice gentleman at the last eroica i attended who said he was an Executive at Cinelli and had spent his apprenticeship in the company archives. I wish i had taken his contacts... he could tell by feeling my shape of the forkblades that these were (then just coming to the market) Columbus...

I am, but nothing more... little to contribute, i'm afraid (though following with interest)

regarding the pump peg on the orange bike, I do not recall seeing a brazed on pump peg on a Cinelli before. And I've seen a lot of Cinellis.
Having said that the wolf ear lugs on the orange bike date it to pre-1960 and if it was sold in Germany, it may have come thru the Bruggeman shop which equipped the German Olympic teams and had a special relationship with Cinelli, so anything is possible.

My 1970 Model B is serial number 6819. Appears consistent with this one but other bikes disprove any real continuity.
You seem to have another set of numbers toward the rear of the BB?
