Time capsule - 1995 Cannondale H300 hybrid (pics)

Picked up this pretty minty 1995 Cannondale H300 hybrid on local CL. It's pretty much fully stock and looks like it's been almost totally unridden. A few garage paint chips. It's nothing fancy but it was made in the US, beautiful welds and paint, and just a fun bike to ride. Serial number GA, meaning January 1995. This paint color wasn't in the catalog though *shrug*

I was originally looking for a bike to give to a friend but I'll be keeping this one and replacing some parts to make it into a plush city bike.

Tange headset

Sun rims, made in the US

Untouched AceraX cranks. These are the warranty cranks that Shimano has been supplying free replacement crankset/chain/FD kits for for years.

Avocet Cross tires, 38mm. They look brand new, besides a few specks of road grime.

1" stem with integrated canti hanger.

Coda seat collar. Nice shot of the classic ground Cannondale welds.

Bottom bracket right after removal, no cleaning.

The plan for this is to shed the FD/shifter and go 1X chainring in the front. I have a Shimano Alfine crankset and bb from the parts bin.

The Avocet tires will be switched out for some nicer Compass Barlow Pass tires. If anybody wants these Avocets let me know.

New saddle and pedals, of course (repro Turbo and MKS track pedals).

I also have some threadless bullmoose bars from Fairweather. So I'll be using a threadless adapter. And getting rid of the gripshifts for a right thumbie. I have these two Suntour units lying around:

I really want to use that wishbone shifter. We'll see how it goes.

The Bullmoose bars do it for me completely. And the rubber. Nice work, it looks like a modern scorcher. Neo-scorcher?

Nice find, I love the color. I'd bet it looks even better in person.

A couple years ago, I picked up a bike ('92 Performance Parabola) that had the same Avocet tires. There was a good amount of tread remaining, but the sidewalls were turning to dust and I had to toss them. I assume the "Cross" was more from when hybrids were known as cross bikes, than cyclocross racing. Did you get a chance to ride them before changing over to the Barlow Pass tires?

I did get to ride the original tires before switching them out. They rode very nicely, soaked up the road, perhaps a little squirmy but the pressure was a little lower than it should have been. When I dismounted them from the rim the tread and sidewalls were in perfect shape but the rubber around the bead was hardened and starting to disintegrate.

I believe the color was called "Mica Red Metallic" by Cannondale in the catalog. It's so rich; I love it.

It's definitely a fast one! I might even throw some knobbies on there come fall and do a cross race or two

Well done! I always thought if I happened upon one in my size a drop-bar version would be fun to build, but I like what you've built.

Perfect! I always thought it was a shame Cannondale hybrids ever wore such low-end Shimano cranks. This is the boutique treatment the frame deserved!

That's gorgeous! The color, the bars especially! Didn't know Nitto made one, and threadless at that. It looks perfect for that bike.

I had Avocets like those on a commuter bike that was stolen from campus many years ago. Liked those tires. Good find on the bike!

$90 if I remember correctly. Would have paid up to $150 for this condition.

That looks great, nice work! Bet it's a blast to ride. Agreed that the bars look perfect for it.
