Man i must be the kid, im 42, going on 8 because i want all the cool IronMan's i see. I was a Teenager and just getting into Cycling when i saw the Miami Vice Centurion for the first time and fell in love with it. and wanted one really bad. Finally got one years later...
What's cool about yours is how great of condition it is in, yet those wheels are very used. As it should be.
I'm not worried cause as soon as I get my purple haze built I'm doing the same thing to mine.

I went back and looked at 669 & 670, and though different, both of those are examples of a sloping crown. Post 911 is a pic of an Ironman unicrown fork.
And Robbie, is the MV model in post 915 above a sloping crown or is it just the lighting? I thought the MVs had unicrowns. If there were some made with sloped crowns, I need to be on the hunt.

The only MV that I'm aware of that came with a sloped fork is that MV originally purchased in a Japan bike shop.
Come to think of it, it wasn't a sloped fork it was lugged. Very unusual. Now that would be difficult to find. Heck it's hard to find the pic of it posted on this thread.

I am 40 going on 13 (according to my wife) and I love 80's/early 90's bikes - the peak of steel IMHO. My first road bike was (and still is) an '88 Specialized Sirrus. We didn't have Centurions in our neck of the woods, but we had Bridgestones. I love the '91 RB-1 I recently acquired and have ridden it in a wide variety of conditions - all to my great pleasure. I'm looking forward to building my '88 Ironman that I bought because it's a great frame and the red fade colors and wild decals knock me out! I'm interested to see how it compares to the RB-1.
This is only tangentially related to Centurions, but I have actually owned two now. The first I owned for a total of 24 hours and got all of one 16 mile ride in on it. It was actually a Diamond Back Expert TG (which has the Ironman logo on it and "Centurion designed" somewhere too). It was the TIG welded version of the Ironman after Diamond Back acquired the Centurion brand. It looked a lot like the grey fade CIM posted above:
While I was in Houston for two weeks I borrowed a guy's '91 Trek 1200 and rolled it when a jogger I was passing cut in front of me on a trail - the derailleur hanger was bent and the threads stripped. The guy was loaded and I thought he might just shrug it off. I offered him cash value as I was flying home two days later. But when he said, "If you were the first guy who didn't return a bike I loaned out, I wouldn't care. But you're the fifth guy who hasn't returned a bike! I need a bike, not cash." Fortunately I had already done my homework before arriving in Houston and a fellow BF member had the DB bike to sell me the next day. It was far better than the Trek it replaced, but I couldn't complain because the guy was actually quite generous and had also let me stay in his guest quarters for two weeks without knowing me from Adam. I think he was actually quite stunned that I found a replacement bike within 12 hours. I got to ride it once the next day, then flew home. C'est la vie.

TexasPandJ,
Thanks for the kind words, yes she is in great shape, It needed very little work when i got it. she rides like new. I added back the BioPace chainrings and the 105 Pedals.
Markwesti,
Thanks, i have that one and a 1989 Expert both 61 cm frames. my problem is finding them big enough. Although i do still have a 58cm Accordo (1988) that i saved from the dumpster. just couldnt let it go to trash. That Master looks nice, just needs some white handlebar tape. although its a pain to keep somewhat clean.
as RT says, It is a sickness i would love to find a 1988 Master, I think the fade paint schemes were really the epitome of late 80's cycling

Pretty close y'all, gals, yous guys, and you all (depends what region you're from). But really would appreciate everyone's input.
Here we go: which components would you rather have on a 88 purple haze frame?
A. Shimano full 600 12 speed off a teal 87 CIM then sale 58 cm frame.
B. Shimano full 600/6400 tri color (except for brake calipers) 16 speed off a black trek 1200 then sale frame.
C. Shimano full 600/6400 tri color 16 speed off a r 800 canondale then sale frame.
The tri color bikes sti and wheels would be put on my very clean original 88 yellow fade CIM as the purple haze will be a tri bike. I know they all have their respective merits so mostly concerned with frame resale. They're all close enough in price to not make a difference to me. I'm very excited it's gonna happen TODAY. YAY!
Side note : you may think that 12 speed wouldn't be enough but I broke an hour on the 40k bike leg in a triathlon on an exceptionally similar set up.

Here is another picture or three of the rare lugged fork. I'm going over the bike again tomorrow. The Martin's Tour of Richmond Gran Fondo is on the 17th and we will be out there in all of our C&V glory! After the success of the UCI World Championships, the Tour of Richmond should be rocking.

moutainave , maybe I miss read . But you did return the bike albeit crashed , and you got him a replacement . So no foul there .
tex , this is just me because I'm really into the 80s' vintage thing but I would not have brifters I would be down tube shifters 6 speed all the way OK maybe 7 . But you are a racer so you need those brifters . My last bike had brifters and I loved them .
seypat any chance we could a shot of the backside of that crown so we can see the slope ? (#935)

It's a good Dave Scott turned out to be "the man." Otherwise, we might be talking about this guy and Nishiki instead. (Shield your eyes. Graphic images ahead)

So, after reading all the hype about the Centurion Ironman bicycle , I bought this frameset / crank / bars , a couple years ago from a fellow forum member from NC . It really is a great bike , and I want to thank all of you , especially RobbieTunes for your expertise , and contribution to this forum and Ironman thread .

So the guy called back and said other prospective buyer didn't follow through so disregard pervious post. I zigged instead of zagged and decided to transfer all components from my 88 yellow fade to my 88 purple haze minus the stem/bars and post/saddle.
From this on to this.
From this on to this.
Markwesti I knew the way you were leaning. Not to worry I still have two 12 speed CIM.

Good kharma on that, Gorby, you brought his wall down....

Sorry I couldn't stop myself. I gotta keep telling myself nobody likes a smartass, nobody likes a smartass, nobody likes a smartass mantra.
Sidenote: my 5th grade teacher pulled me aside and whispered that in my ear.

That's Kenny Souza. The best biathlete/duathlete ever. He'd run a sub 14 5k then leave everyone in the dust on the 30k bike then run a 15 minute 5k. Unbelievable.(the best I could do was a 17 min duathlon 5k.) I once competed in duathlon that he competed in. Forget about it, I wasn't even in the same zip code. When he was on not Mike Pigg, Mark Allen, or Lance could stay with him. And Mark Allen could keep up with Andy hampsten the Giro d'Italia winner and alp d'huez stage winner in the tour DE France.
Good thing for Dave Scott, Kenny swam like a rock.
Good thing for Dave Scott, Kenny swam like a rock.
Now, I've been under 14:00 in the 5K, only once, and under 15:00 many times. Never under 30:00 in the 10K, though.
Years ago, for sure. 2:21 marathon, so I had the lungs at one time, you could say.
If I'd have had to ride a bike leg in between 5K's, I'd have sat down and bawled, or got up and got a beer and DNF.
