I run 5800 on several bikes including an ironman and a Cannondale CAAD9. The groupset is just plain awesome. No experience with the Campy stuff, but you would likely not be disappointed with 5800. It is a great groupset at rock bottom pricing.

What are your opinions? I just have acquired a frame fork in '87 ironman Miami Vice

Lots of touch-up paint is right. The top tube should be magenta not school bus yellow and it's missing decals. Plus kinda pricey for just a frame, on the other hand, it is a harder to find tall bike.

The only campy I have is very vintage, so I don't know much about the modern gear. But they have Shimano handily beat for aesthetics when it comes to brifters. Plus, they are designed to be rebuildable - STI's are disposable (but can be rehabbed with a small bottle of courage). IMHO, STI looks like a brake lever with encephalitis. Ergos look like a brake lever that ate just a bit too much pasta.

It's not an Ironman, but I just finished cleaning up an '89 Prestige, SN N8N6002. I got it from a kid who traded it to me for a guitar. The original 600 groupset was intact, but the frame has a whole bunch of little chips in the paint. I think, though, it is from storage, as there's not a lot of wear on the cassette or brake pads. I swapped out a modern Kalloy stem to fit the new Specialized saddle the kid had on there, which also was long enough for me to take a ride on it. As you can see, it's pretty small for me, but I'm still going to take it on a long ride on Monday.

We've seen them posted on here before, kinda the big brother to the Ironman. I've said this before: Awesome color scheme (my favorite IM color), solid components, racing frame pedigree, and my size! Reminds me of swimming at an apartment pool in the 1980s. I can smell the tropical sun tan lotion or was it banana boat? Good times people, good times. Ride on @tiredhands.

Too tight, looking good Unk. Looks like a fast single speed.

Inquiring minds want to know!! I've 650b'ed an RB1, but it's impossible to get anything wider than 38mm between the chainstays and fork - even that is a tight fit. But damn, it's a fun bike now! You never thought you could fly so fast over gravel.

Comes together really well. Everything is in it's place logical and functional and just right.
Kind of a "no brag, just fact" bike.

Yep, that's a 1985. Paid the same amount for mine and looks to be in the same good condition. Let me help everyone envision the finished product...

Wow! Boy I forgot how good that Ironman looked. Your bike proves you don't have to go completely modern to be a looker. Is that rccardr old 85? Looks good enough to be.

So what size do you normally ride? I ask cause I have a blue cannondale frame too big for me that I haven't gotten around to building yet. And I'd be interested in a frame trade. I think your post is too low to pm so I put it out here. Let me know.

Perhaps you should RT. I see a little rust , it's kinda' hard to see if the paint is any good you would have to talk to the guy . But man a DA wheel set with aero rims . Yowser .
