Many of us are fans of MAX and MXL tubed bikes. I stumbled upon this blog dedicated to bikes made with Columbus MAX, MXL, and MiniMax. Was not aware of many of these.

Can someone enlighten me re the forks on these Max framesets? Frankly, I find them rather ugly.

(Btw, is that a Max fork on the De Rosa, or a cheap unicrown replacement?: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mCUwpeX_mI...osa_max_03.JPG Yuck!)

We have a member who owns that Tomassini, and it just makes me happy looking at it. I'll add my MAX Marnati to their list - thanks Force!

Gaucho - it's not the most attractive fork...but my MAX bike is absolutely perfect for my weight, riding style and preferences. I can't go back to 531 and SL after the EL OS and MAX tubesets.

I agree DeRosa could have done a little better job here.

the real MAX crowns as commonly seen on Merckxx bikes are nice but I always wondered if the performance was much different than the more basic crown Bianchi chose. Bianchi's one year offering of a MiniMax frame (which is listed int he catalog as being "EL Ovalized throughout" yadda yadda yadda) came ith a OK looking chromed unicrown

Actually the crown fork EM bikes have is a special crown fork from EM that matched the blades... the bianchi u have pictured there has the original columbus max crown fork. Many manufacturers changed the fork crown and the tips on the seat stays.

The one i have is filled brazed, have no idea what tip are u talking about. If you get the MAX series out of the box the crown fork is just like the bianchi, no logos. Obviously factories can just get the lugs pantographed is not that hard to do with the right equipment.

Personally i like that squared crown fork a lot. Other people hate them :D

I don't hate them! The fork is probably my favorite part of a MAX bike.

As with many things, it is relative. Speaking for myself, you'd love that Columbus Max fork and its fork crown if you weighed 195 pounds, and ride steep curvy roads with rough sections, reaching 35-45 mph on downhills. Reynolds 531 and Columbus SP/SL tubing not so good....
