<----------------The 1967 Schwinn Breeze Restoration Thread---====<<<<<<

Well, it's time to start another one. Winter is here and the boat restoration season is slow enough I can now start on the next C&V project.
We all remember the 1972 Ross last winter, What a gas pipe, but it came out sooooo sweet.

It looks like this year it's going to be a 1967 Breeze and what a fun project it's going to be. The bike was identified by you, the good people of C&V. I guess to start out, this is what it looked like when I got it.

Next, We have some photos of it on the table in tare down. What a mess. The old grease is like glue.

And now we get to some pretty. These are some of the parts I am sure I can save for the rebuild. New is nice but any thing original is better. How ever,,,,, the hubs are from another bike.... If I can not find some S wheels,,, I will build something up with these period hubs if I must... But for now,,,, Just on the side and safe for later. The chairing came out real real nice, The cranks are going to be just as good.

Also all the elector forged tubes are clean but this one. Maybe a crack in it's life at soem time?
Never the less I will re-braze this and smooth it up better than new. It will show very well in new paint as it is so it's got to be made smooth.

Here is a good one of the Serial Number, I'm thankful this was not chewed up to bad. I have a way in my shop to magnaflux it back in, at least I did not need to bath it and dust it for all that.

Feeling like a strip tease?

some test spots. Looks like it will do fine.
Some of them can be a pain in the you know what with chemical strip.

WOW, they don't plate like this any more.

40+ years of rust and 5 min on the brass wheel and another 5 on the polishing ball and it looks like new.....

Also the seat post was in very bad shape. After turning it on the lath with some 400 then 1500 and compound in a rag it came out nice also.

Well thank you sauze. It's going to be fun. I'm just trying to save as much as I can.
I see all the chrome parts are available new. They just don't look as good as thick chrome. So, I clean

Thanks Pastor Bob. I enjoy the kind words.

Well it looks like a bad Schwinn MURDER up in here!

Me thinks some one repainted this bike at one time. The paint on the fork that is in the head tube started to bubble almost instantly. the rest of the bike is slower and has a second layer of primer over a base red.

That would be awesome cover art for a murder mystery novel.

Guess I'll keep following this thread to find out whodunit!

I HATE using chemical stripper on bike frames, old bike paint must be the toughest substance on earth.

Looks like you're doing a great job, can't wait to see how it turns out.

Enjoying the play-by-play over here. Plain bikes need love too. If you don't have a nickname for the finished bike already in mind, mind if I suggest My Fair Lady, aka Eliza Doolittle?

Well chemical striping is done. Now to move on the the CUP. And I had said I thought it was repainted, I was right. Lots of scuff, scrape and ding marks under the paint. Also a lot of skin rust painted over. Some one must have got all rat on this thing back in the 70's

Just taking note of the construction details; that's one of the sturdier-looking step-through frames I've ever seen. The fork looks like it would serve well in hand-to-hand combat, in a pinch. No offense intended, I'm a fan of this project

Looks like it's going well. Hows the Ross Euro Tourer holding up? I'm kind of looking to get involved with one of those , not as common as EF Schwinns up here.

It's holding up fine. Rode it in the Christmas parade...... They are a good bike, Nothing fantastic. Mine is a retail store Ross. Some of the ROSS were LBS quality.

I had a Breeze a couple of years ago. It had a really nice feel to it. If it hadn't been too small for me, I might have kept it.

First layers of primer for metal prep.
At least I got something done on it today. It's been a long long day.

BTW, Higgins is next.

The Breeze is looking good. What color are you going to paint it? I have my mother-in-law's red Breeze 3 speed out in the barn. I thought my daughter would ride it, but she wanted something lighter. It just needs a good cleaning.
