PINK univega gran rally in showroom condition
i picked this up today as a donor bike, looking for the components, but now i'm having second thoughts as it is in REALLY nice condition.
the guy i bought it from was the original owner, said his girls rode it a few times and it has been sitting in the garage ever since.
pretty sure everything is original, as the previous owner stated.
serial number OG77722 on bottom bracket, along with the number 56, which i'm 99% sure is the size.
1986 univega gran rally, triple butted chromo steel, lawee design
headset - shimano 600 HP-6207
brake levers - shimano 600 BL-6208
brake calipers - shimano 600 BR-6208 (KD april 1986)
shifters - shimano 600 SL-6208
front derailleur - shimano 600 FD-6207 (KC march 1986)
rear dearailleur - shimano 600 RD-6208
crank - shimano 600 FC-6207 170mm (KA january 1986)
pedals - shimano 600 PD-6207 with shimano clips and univega leather? straps
freewheel - forgot to check
chain - uniglide i believe
hubs - shimano 600 HB-6207 (KD april 1986)
araya super hard anodized rims
700cx25 univega HT-1 tires
WIII kusuki, winpista japan bars
unknown stem
sakae CR 26.8 seat post
italia, mundialita suede saddle
cat eye reflectors front and rear and on pedals front and rear
can anyone tell me if the tires, toe straps, reflectors, seat and stem are original?
i would assume the stem is, otherwise the OE looking bar tape would have been removed to install the shorter stem, but in any event, the guy said he's never done a thing to the bike.
i haven't pulled the bottom bracket or stem, but i did pull the seat post, which came flying out, and there is NO sign of rust whatsoever. no dents, and only MINOR paint blemishes; the brake hoods are totally dry however, as i tried to pull one off the tape a bit, it tore ;(
so should i strip it for the components or sell it to someone who can appreciate a near perfect original bike?

I'd clean that baby up a little and keep it as is. A real period piece with the pink and white. I don't know if they'd fit, but ICYCLES sells white Dia Compe brake hoods (the common size..) for pretty cheap.

Hmmm. If I got that for my girlfriend, I could go the rest of my life without ever having to buy flowers for her...

Beautiful bike + rare colour + popular size = $$$
You would do really well with it on eBay...a well made pink Japanese bike in perfect condition is pretty darn rare to see.

The Lawee design Univegas are damn fine bikes. 600 equipped! You need to find another donor.

That bike looks perfect as it is. I would definitely ride it. Pink is my favorite color.

well you guys are all saying what i was already thinking, got to find another donor bike. this one is just too damn nice to tear apart.
i normally ride a 57-59, but i could swing a 56 for comfortable around town cruising. i might just put it up on ebay as funds are tight and i really want to get started on my real project.
to Oregon Southpaw, i use a canon G10, best point and shoot digital camera in my opinion, at least in "pocket size", although it would never fit in your pocket. all the functions you would see on any basic/mid range digital SLR, very well setup. my girlfriend has a nice nikon with the larger (more telescopic) lens, which i'll have to admit, it would be nice to be able to zoom a little more sometimes.

I have some pink diacompe hoods. They're not hard to find, and cheap.

I give you the pink eye stink eye if you part that out.
Those triple butted OEM miyata frames were sweet. I had one R.I.P. Still proud about stinking the landing after impact.
