When you do get a chance to stop by Radsport Wetzel, you should imagine that he was the reference importer of all high-end MTB frames and components in Germany in the 80's: Yeti, Ibis, Mountain Goat, Synchro, Control Tech, Grove Innovations... as well as a direct importer of many high-end Italian road bikes: De Rosa, Gios, Olmo. Quite hard to imagine when you see how small the premises are. He did however do great business with all of them.

Unfortunately, his long-time partner was hit by cancer and when she passed away he lost much of his drive.

Pietro has been in the bike business for over 30 years

He still has a sensational NOS Olmo frame on the wall, just waiting for the right buyer. Oversized Columbus tubing, I think. I'll snap a pic next time I'm in.

Bear in mind that the Alte Oper is actually a concert hall.
The real fun happens at the Opera house on Willi Brandt platz, where I work.

CdM: Thanks for the info on Radsport Wetzel!

Barchettaman: Thanks for the correction & info on the real opera house. You must deal with a lot of characters working at an opera house. I have friends who work at the SF Opera. A fun group of people. They always have the best Halloween costumes!

Yeah, it's a cool place to work - the singing is obviously a good laugh but it's all the characters and colleagues that make the job so special.

Shameful admission #1 . When I was looking to get my first road bike years ago I went Radsport Wetzel to see what he had in stock. He showed me a second-hand De Rosa with full 105, in my size, for about €600. I was absolutely not interested, thinking that steel bikes were heavy, slow and outmoded..... I ended up with something low end from Decathlon, oh well, you live and learn.

Set up for winter training, with a 50/34 FSA square taper compact crankset.

I love compacts.

Stunning bike. Immaculate. Somewhat daring, and a little rude. Perfect C&V. Ride on!

Thanks Mike. It certainly gets a lot of attention from the carbon crowd on group rides, I suppose bright neon paintwork will do that!
