And here's another. It might take 20 days to arrive with customs and all, like one I recently bought, but it will get you back on your bike.,,,,BD

Thanks BD for both your replies. I will google Hans Johnson per your recommendation (and will definitely let the shop know about this source, as apparently they may not ...).

You just need to find a fork yourself, take it to them, and say here put this on! Of course if your top and down tubes are bent, that's another issue altogether.,,,,BD
Yes, this approach had also occurred to me ... in fact, my eBay search late last night had identified this fork (with 300mm steerer, 100mm of which is threaded) as a likely candidate:

... for getting me back on my 69cm Univega, so I will certainly follow your suggestion ... especially given news in this morning's e-mail from the eBay seller of the 1981 Fuji Royale here in Los Angeles that he'd sold it through his brick & mortar retail shop last weekend : - ( just hadn't yet had a chance to terminate the eBay auction page ) - :

Thanks again,

P.S. (Edit) ... I also found this older thread on straightening bent forks that has me questioning whether I could do this myself too, as I'm again skeptical that my LBS maybe isn't trying hard enough, since (maybe for liability reasons?) they immediately said "replacement" rather than "straightening" was the way to go, without any real examination of the condition of the original fork ....

'78 fuji s10-s. it's kind of a viking of a bike.

s t u r d y

and p u r p l e

it's viking purple, not k-state purple. thank (norse) god.

i replaced the brick-like pedals, steel post and turkey levers with sylvans, aluminum and dia-compe drilled ones. the fizik tape is the grey soft-touch stuff. the bike probably needs paselas and gum hoods. the stem and nitto bars are gorgeous. it has the high-normal front derailleur. i wonder if the cool, 'belt - tokyo' leather saddle is original.?.

Beautiful Del Rey ButchA!

I owned a purple S10-S at one point, I loved the color .. I hand dyed the bar tape to match.

The Fujita Belt saddle is original ..

Japanese were never remotely related to being Vikings, I'm sure Fuji's intention in using purple was more in line with the meaning of aristocracy in Japan.

Thanks... It's a classic for sure. I loved the fact that the college kid (from the Craigslist ad) took $120 bucks (originally: $150). It is darn near in MINT condition for being 30 years old. The story goes, it was the college kid's dad's bike new from 1985, and most likely kept as a "garage queen" for quite a number of years.

Edit: Your old S-10-S is awesome with the custom dyed bar tape!

Awwww, it was okay. Look at my right pedal and toe strap in the photo... That was mostly where all the bracing was at. The top tube was just GENTLY resting against that flood light pole.

Here's a shot of the whole bike before I swapped out the Kenda K161 'cross tires with K35 gumwalls.

Did some updates on my '83 Espree today....... Biggest change was swapping the stem shifters to DT shifters.

I got as close to stock as my budget and time constraints would allow. I've had it almost a year, and never found stock brake levers for it. Now that I am not looking, there are probably 5 sets up under $30 and free shipping, lol. It rides VERY nice, but the narrow bars may try to kill me. Twitch factor and pucker factor run parallel at this width, hehe. The saddle, yeah it's a Rolls, but the pattern is close to the original saddle.,,,,BD

Yes I will get hoods before it's done, and paint, decals, etc. Ever Onward, as the chain stay decals state....

^ what, no hoods?looks great otherwise.about the original levers ... i'm not a fan of 'restoring' bikes with everything exactly as it once was. i'd much rather fully 'refurbish' them, making them better than when they were new. but, with that said, it's always nice to match brand and era between levers and calipers.

Bikedued, nice job! I switched out my bars as the originals 39cm were too narrow. I went up to some 42cm Nittos, made a huge difference, not only in handling but strain on my shoulders.

Just took delivery of an 1985 Team Fuji with a Campy Veloce groupset pilfered off a cracked frame Bianchi...hey! - that's "flamingo" colored paint. Can't wait to fall ride her (as opposed to falling while riding) and park her in the stable next to '83 Touring IV (suddenly sad I got rid of the Titanium Fuji).
