Fender Choices
Thanks to all who helped me decide on the Raleigh Competition yesterday. I love it love it love it. First thing I gotta do is get some fenders.
I've seen bikes with the Civia flat fenders and they look super cool:
https://www.amazon.com/Civia-Flat-Fen...9056464&sr=8-8
However, I suspect they don't offer the best protection.
Thinking about ghetting the VO hammered ones instead.
https://www.amazon.com/Velo-Orange-Ha...9058891&sr=1-2 (but I would get the 38)
Thoughts?

I have VO Hammered.
Likes: look good, good protection
Dislikes: hard to mount, kind of noisy, strut attachment increases toe overlap (I have a fixed gear).

Personally I'd stick with the more formal look of that bike, and install black PB fenders, (sans the rear skirt).
- Cheap, easy to install and fit, extremely durable.

btw I second the PB fenders. Strong, good hardware, easy to mount, etc. You could replace the integrated mudflaps with leather ones if you want to dial them back a few years. I haven't done that but I think it would look pretty nice.
I also have the toe overlap issue with VO fenders.

I'll chime in with the combo of SKS fenders, silver or black, with the PB mud flaps if desired. This is the second bike I've put this combo on and I love it. The front flap gets waaaaay down there.

60mm flaps: https://ecom1.planetbike.com/7027_1.html

$5 a pair, they get them to you in about 3-4 days.

As for the color, I think traditional rule is dark bike - light fenders, light bike - dark fenders.
Of course this rule exists only to break it
I personally put black PB cascadia fenders on dark blue bike (did not know about that 'rule of thumb'), and while I love them, if I was doing it again, I would choose silver finish.
My Fuji America is going to have silver PB Cascadia fenders.

I have a set of VO aluminum fenders on my city bike. They do take some concentration to mount, but I like them a lot. I am wondering if anyone has tried their stainless fenders. I wonder how much heavier they are.

Hey Khatfull, what model of the SKS fenders are those? They looked nice on the Fuji and I'm currently looking for some fenders.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I notice that everyone who buys fenders loves the ones they bought. I guess it's down to esthetics, really. Planet Bike are relatively inexpensive, and they're light. I have the SKS and I like them, and they're light and handsome. You could even get Wald chrome plated steel, but they're heavy.

Just the standard SKS Chromoplastics, got 'em at The Hub. Ordered the flaps from PB, I highly recommend them. You have to drill a couple holes one you fit the flap but other than that, easy as cake. Just order the same width flap as you buy fenders.
