Shimano 600 clarification

So, if my Shimano 600 rear hub has a lockring, does that make it hyperglide? Sheldon's article is unclear. And while we're here: Any pluses or minuses to sante vs 105 front hubs, both NOS.

Hyperglide has lockrings like what you would see on modern 8/9/10 systems. Uniglide has a threaded cog.

Sante is somewhere between 600 and DA, so it is better (possibly negligible) than 105. It looks sweet though.

Uniglide can also have inside threads that take a lockring, but will have threads on the outer ouside to take a threaded cog.
If there are threads on the outside, it's Uniglide, even if it has threads on the inside....

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Assuming that it's a freehub you're talking about, the difference between Uni and Hyperglide is that the former has splines of identical width, while the former has a single narrower one. Early HG hubs had threads both outside and inside the end, so that you could use either Uni (threaded small cog) or Hyper (lockring) cassettes on them. A Uniglide freehub typically had a dustcap that filled the whole of the interior, while obviously the dustcap (and seal and cone) design changed with Hyperglide to permit the lockring to thread onto the interior of the freehub body. A stupid innovation, it seems to me. Makes it damn near impossible to transplant HG onto UG, because you need to change all the crap on the drive side of the axle. And they don't include all that crap with a freehub.

Thanks. I would like to know what it is without disassembling it. That may not be possible.
I agree, I like the look of the Sante.
