Viscount seats on old (early 60's) Schwinns

In doing some research on a restoration, I read something about Viscount seats (Taiwan) being used on Schwinn's from the early 1960's. Anyone know anything about this bit of history? I thought the seat was maybe a later replacement, but if it was possibly original equipment, I would rather keep it that way.
