Are these worth messing around with?
 

Can't beat the price! Anybody familiar with these at all and whether they work fairly decent?

I woudn't touch those. You can get higher quality older shimano stuff for equal or less.

You could put that group (tongue in cheek) together for about $40 from Niagara.

The shifters are crap, I put some on a beater bike a few years back and it couldn't hold the tension from the rear derailleur unless I cranked it really tight but then it just became a single speed.

I put a sunrace freewheel on another bike, a bit weighty, but it worked ok.

No experience with the derailleurs, but they just look like steaming pantloads, urr, I mean they look cheaper than Shimano Tourney's.

I don't know about the other stuff, but the chrome, HG, SunRace freewheels are good products for the money.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that. I've put them on a few bikes and they work great.

what's not to work in a freewheel?

Durability, weight, shifting, "roundness", 8 speeds (:P)

You obviously have no experience with Falcon freewheels. Seized pawls, broken pawl springs, split cogs, stripped cog threads, bent and broken teeth, missing and broken spacers, no grease, bodies threaded off axis...

+1 to others comments. An equal or better combination can be assembled for less money.

Oddly, there are 8, 9 and 10 speed HG freewheels produced today.

Worth messing with? Heck no.

Way overpriced. I was offered that kit at a LBS for less than 20.00.

+1 on Sunrace freewheels. They work well.

I wish you guys wouldn't be so guarded in your comments, tiptoeing around the real issues here. Why don't you let me know what you really think about these parts and the asking price!!!!;)
