Here is what I'm thinking about going with. Obviously not quality, but I think I will replace the bearings with higher quality ones. I'll also need a shrader to presta adapter

Ok, I've finally made up my mind (even though it will probably change within the hour (; . Going to go with a vintage 105 wheelset with a 8 speed freehub, and put a 10 speed on that. I'll post a link if you don't try to outbid me...

Light. Strong. Fast. What's not to like.
However, with Mavic hubs its mandatory to do a Mavic on Mavic wheel. It just is.

Update, If you're curious. Just purchased a really nice 105/Ultegra group for 150$. STI's, brake calipers, cassette, chain, and F&R derailleurs (derailleurs are Ultegra, local purchase). Seemed like a great deal! Found a good vintage wheelset that accepts 10 speed cassettes on ebay. Will post pictures when everything gets put together. Now the only test will be the 10 speed chain on the old chainrings.....

Everything is together (!!), besides the bar tape. Runs beautifully. Will probably get some white hoods eventually. Thanks for all the help!

I would keep that frame too, kick ass paint. Updating an old frame can look to some as a waste of money but tell them to look at the price of a new CroMo frame with kool paint. My Shogun is updated with 10spd and DT shifters, love it.

It rides really nicely. I was worried I would have to get a new crankset to accept the 10 speed chain, but it works fine if I'm careful not to cross the chain. I love the biopace, it's a shame they don't make those anymore.

A little large, but being only 15, I will probably (hopefully) grow into it. Eventually I'd like to get a brooks team pro or swift, but we'll see. $$$

On the fit, frames can be sized from "Race" fit which is the smallest you can ride to "French" which is the tallest you can ride. Check Competetive Cyclist. The larger size gives you a longer TT and DT for a smoother ride.

Yeah the stem is a little long for my liking, but it'll be awhile before I ditch that awesome white stem. Has anyone used the Nashbar Gr2? Cheapo white saddle, but the reviews seem to be very good. The white saddle would be absolutely killer on that frame.

Not to hyjack your thread but, how does the cassette affix to the free hub?

The cassette is not fixed together when it is in he packaging (except for the first 3 or 4 cogs, which are riveted together) so you slide the cogs on from the greatest number of teeth the the smallest while including the spacers where you think they should go. Then I had to go to the LBS and get a park tool lock-ring to tighten it on the hub. Tell me if I'm wrong guys!

I wasn't really sure what he was asking.... so I guess. Yeah it's a 10 speed hyperglide on an old Mavic wheelset.

No I'm asking how the cassette keeps from falling off of a Shimano free hub.

The piece is called a lock ring, it goes on after all the gears and spacers. Old uniglide don't use a lockring, the last smallest gear is threaded. The lock ring threads to the threads on the inside and uniglide gears thread onto the threads on the out side. Look at the picture. Uniglide hub threads are on the out side. Hyperglide hubs threads are on the inside. Some hubs are both. I just picked up a set of Dura-Ace 7403, threads on the inside and out side and 6-7-8-9 or 10spd compatible. Most with threads inside and outside are only 6-7spd, the 7403 is vary rare.
