Ever seen anything like this before on a Peugeot Bottom Bracket Shell?
I've just bought this Peugeot and noticed this on the base of the bottom bracket shell. I've not seen anything like it before and wondered if anyone has any idea's what it is and what its for?

IIRC its for a press-fit BB. I know I've seen similar shells on Tandems with eccentric BB's.

Might be an attempt to repair a bb shell with stripped threads. You could adjust the amount that the cup threads mesh into the shell threads.
This is on the non-drive side, but would be useful also to retain a French or Italian fixed cup, since they don't have reverse threading that prevents cup loosening.
An alternaterepair that was offered by bb makers was the oversized cup, I've seen Campag bb cups that were factory-stamped to indicate the oversize.
