My wife gets high praise for finding these bags and the Raleigh Technium 400 they were on at a yard sale. Perfect color for my new ST400 build. Wish I could find another pair that color. The tire sock is also Cannondale.

Those are really sweet! I've not seen a pair of the internal framed panniers that were rectangular. Usually they have a diagonal in the front to assist with heal clearance. Those however, are huge and worthy of a real cross country adventure.

I think they were called Commuter Panniers. I will have to check an see if I still have the old catalog with those in it. I have a pair that are pretty well trashed, but I saved them to use for a pattern to make a replacement set.

Not the most flattering picture of me, but I had just reached 1000 miles for the year, while riding 93 miles with friends who were completing their cross country journey on their tandem. We rode from Brattleboro, VT to Burlington, MA. The longest distance I had ever covered in a day. We were somewhere in SW-NH.

Notice the two Cannondale bags attached to the seat. I managed to fit a wedge underneath to hold all my tools, tubes, etc. The larger one attached to the saddle loops held the folding spare tire, a bottle of water, sunscreen and the Brooks saddle hoddie in case of rain. Fortunately all I needed to use was the water and sunscreen!

^ You are very well coordinated. Bike, bags and kit(even the helmet) all have the red and white theme. I am lucky if my bar tape matches my bike.

Nice Pristine looking bags - I think that color comes up fairly often on e-bay if you're looking for some matching fronts.

I believe that seat bag was called a 'Toot'. I had one of those in yellow as well many years ago. I bought the bag in '76 from Bike Warehouse (now Nashbar) to put on my blue '74 Fuji 'Special Road Racer'. I ordered yellow rather than blue because I wanted the 'extra' visibility. I'll have to try to dig up a pic of my bike from TOSRV '77...

While I like the looks of the "Toot" I find them hard to access. Not easiest to get stuff in and out of.

I used mine just for tools, spare tube and flat kit. I had even cut a Craftsman 10" crescent wrench to shorter length to fit in the bag. Mine got sold at parent's garage sale, without my knowledge or consent! Wish I could find another bag!

That's a decent price - I've taken the internal frames out of soiled C-dale panniers and put them into the washing machine (gentle cycle), to make them appear new again.

I found the rear set locally and they're not a very good color match with what I had but I really like how the denim blue goes with the bike. If I could only find the matching pair of either set I would be happy.

I have this black Cannondale saddle bag but it does not seem to mount securely.

I am concerned it will bounce off while riding.

Is there something missing on the mounting apparatus on it?

This is a cool thread. I found these panniers at a thrift store for $20. They were still in the original box which you can see in the background. I have them mounted on my single speed that I use on the Western Md. Rail Trail. Love the storage space in them.

Krylon makes a paint for plastic called Fusion. Give them a wash and dry, tape them off (zippers and labels), and give them a spray. I agree: the darker bags look better ~

I don't see that the paint is listed for use on cloth. I think I would be tempted to remove the labels and try a dye before I did all the masking etc. for painting.

Has anyone ever tried to dye something like this? Probably very much a hit or miss regarding color outcome I would assume.

I've owned 10 prs. of C-dale panniers - I think the spray would work for their nylon material. Canvas/cloth: I'd use a flat finished regular type spray paint. It works nicely on my baseball caps for a refresh or change of color: ya can't tell they've been painted if they have time to dry and air ~

Try an automotive interior fabric dye. Supposedly good for use on synthetics like nylon. Try a automotive trim shop.

Since this thread has gotten bumped I've acquired a few other sets of Cannondale bags.

It's very interesting to see the differences in the bags. I've got 3 different styles of the handlebar bags- I think they're all different versions of the Trestle.

I also have a set of front panniers that have a zipper around the top, rather than the zipper across the front around the frame edge.

a trip back in time with Cannondale
Vintage Cannondale - Cannondale Catalogs

I still have mine purchased new in 1980. Have seen countless miles. Better stuff out there today but the early Cannondale have a good look and lightweight. I now use roll top dry bags inside the panniers. I also have the bar w/map enclosure and seat bag.
